Im a fan of Hinder but only like 3 of their songs. I wont pay 20.00 for those 3 songs. Especially when I can hear them on the radio for FREE. I like Disturbs 'Down with the Sickness' I wont pay 20.00 to listen to that one song. How hard is that to get??

I would much rather to download a song for .99-1.29 and put it to my IPOD then to have a CD that is gonna collect dust.


and yes I think your bus ride, you meal and 3 pints of beer is fucking expensive. I can get a bus ride to the nearest city for 2.00, a meal for 5.00 and 3 pints of beer for 4.50 in the states. and 20.00 for 1 song I want is REALLY fucking expensive and ridiculous. especially when I can hear it on the radio for free or go to youtube and type it in the search bar when ever I want.

Now throw a Chicago, Journey, Beatles, Benny Mardonez CD in front of me for 20.00 and hell yeah I would buy it.

I definitely agree that it's hard to justify buying a CD when you don't enjoy most of the music. That's the nice thing about iTunes and whatnot. You *can* buy one song if you want. I don't remember the last time I bought a CD. It's hard for me to justify. And if I *were* going to buy a CD for whatever reason, I'd listen to the music on it first and make sure it's worth the money.

Bands of the past used to actually put effort into their music and the songs were decent. Nowadays, it's a bunch of crap with a few good songs in there. I think a lot of bands are recording the music they have to, not the music they want.

Todays music Sucks. and id be damned if Im gonna give Britney Spears 20.00 in a time like this for one song I like on her CD. If I did that, then i wouldnt have enough money to buy crack :p

Well generally speaking anyway. I mean, Gaga fucking sucks, yet she somehow became popular. Ditto Justin Bieber, who just annoys me. And I would happily give both a bullet. Rihanna's terrible. Kings Of Leon are good, and me buying a CD of theirs isn't completely out of the question, though still unlikely. Katy Perry, no no no.

The only CD I could ever justify buying are Springsteen's because he is the greatest ever (yeah yeah my opinion, get off your fucking high horse) and it has a few great songs as well as the rest being pretty good, no bad ones.

I would buy Bruce Springsteen's cd's no problem. I can justify paying 20.00 for it. Bruce is the Man...I mean the Boss:p

For todays Music and what we have in the states. It would be like me buying a Single for 20.00 :24::24: Hell nah
 
I mean, if I may, he's the album chart in the UK

1. Now 77 - Yeah I'd only listen to 2/3 songs on this, not worth the £12.
2. Take That - Progress - TT are ok, but again not enough to spend paper money on.
3. Olly Murs - No, he's manufactured from a TV show and he isn't that good.
4. JLS - To be fair, these aren't aimed at me, so I wouldn't ever listen to them.
5. Duffy - Not quite.
6. Alexandra Burke - Oh she's good, but her music doesn't correlate fully with my tastes.
7. Rihanna - Previously mentioned, she is shit.
8. Michael Buble - I like Michael Buble to be fair, really good singer with a natural voice and I suppose if the chance came up I probably would buy a CD of his, but Spotify is so much easier.
9. Westlife - I thought these fucked off years ago? I hate them anyway.
10 - N Dubz - Shite.

So mostly they suck (IMO - wouldn't want to make anyone cry now) but some are good at singing. Buble's the best of a bad bunch.

So buy the singles, or buy the downloads. I was simply pointing out that a CD is in no way overpriced. As I keep saying, it's simply the best value for money item anyone can buy. Nothing else even comes close.

I use Spotify for artists that I like a single song from. I wouldn't buy a CD based on liking 1 song.

And to make this even more accurate, I should point out it was the person who actually made the t-shirts that called the police and reported that you stole his product.

Yes you should have been charged. :D Just because someone is giving away Tee shirts doesn't mean he wants you to get one for free. Whatever his reasoning was he was justified to have you arrested because you didn't have permission to take it.

Like I said before a person is a thief if he / she takes something belonging to someone else without their permission. I don't know how much clearer I can make it.

I totally respect your staunch belief in this most basic idea. In it's simplest form, it is a rule of order that everyone must heed, for sure.

But having worked in and around the music industry for 20+ years, I just see this issue as something not nearly as cut and dried. I've seen and understand all the different ways money flows through this business. The major difference to me, is that in a major record label scenario the music in question is not really the property of the artists who recorded it, and downloading a copy of a song for free doesn't really take any money out of the artist's pocket. My personal belief is that something the record labels routinely give away for free is hard to label as "stolen" in any scenario. Downloaded music is an expected by-product of the system the labels themselves put in place.

Anyway, no use beating our heads against the wall on this. We have different conclusions on the topic and that's OK by me.

When it comes to pirating, and that's what I call it, I'm pretty much stuck in my ways. I've tried to look at it with shades of gray but it always reverts back to a b & w issue.

I will confess that I was guilty of swipin' music and software when the net was in it's infancy but my conscience got the best of me. It's tempting as hell because of the cost of an album but I can't bring myself to do it nor can I justify anyone else doing it. One thing about me is you'll never have to count your fingers if we ever shook hands.

2/ Everyone should stop buying/downloading Lady Gaga's music so she might get the message and go away.
3/ Illegal downloads are the future of the music industry.
4/ Legal downloads are the future of the music industry, in spotify form.
5/ CD's containing music made/sing by Bruce Springsteen should be the only ones allowed to be sold in shops.
6/ That Dandy Warhols CD I own (in fact it's looking at me right now) should be immortalized in the British Music Museum in a solid gold plaque for future generations.

I think the future of the industry isn't illegal downloads, I think it's free music. Download by donation (a la Radiohead). More and more artists now are releasing their music for free online under the Creative Commons copyright licenses and merely charging for those who want a physical CD (there will always be people, myself included, that love buying CDs)., I for one will keep buying CDs. I love getting them home, unwrapping them, that freshly printed insert smell... popping them in my player and rocking out...

The Dandy Warhols are awesome.

So is The Boss.
