The Pope is resigning

Popes don't resign except for rarely. Been hundreds of years since one has.

My bet is he saw his future and it was not bright due to his involvement in the cover up of Priests abusing children. If he did not see his future then those around him did and they forced him to resign.

With luck there will be justice finally for all that were abused and those others who covered up those abuses will see the door. I just wish that door led to prison for those who enabled the preditors.

He never should have been made the Pope

But the Catholic church is just as political as any political party

How people can continue to support that church when they made him Pope is mind boggling

Until you realize the power that church has over its flock. Heads should have rolled over all those Priest abuses and how the church leaders dealt with them. Instead of dealing with it head on they choose to pick a person to be Pope who had deep involvement in the cover up.

Pope John Paul II was charismatic and attracted many young generations to the Catholic church that had abandoned it..

The problem with this Pope is he was not a people's Pope right from the start.. I never thought he looked healthy for the job and honestly I thought he was the wrong choice. But the church does things as per the old sacred rules and will not change.

And the problem with John Paul II was the fact that he was half dead for more than a couple of years acting as Pope.

This could be a major change down the road for future popes, not feeling that they have to perform the job if they physically and mentally can't.

Personally, I have no doubt what goes on behind the vatican walls most likely mirrors Payton's place.
