the photography league phase 3

What kind of league were you expecting? I sort of remember reading the original post about this, I thought it was that the first person to win three competitions would win all the tokenz accumulated :ninja is that still right?

That's the way I've always understood it as well. First person to win three competitions gets the pot. Perhaps Siph has been smoking pot? :unsure: :ninja

I don't know if you think my last entry shouldn't have won because it had a humorous element, but I didn't see a problem with it. Grapes are edible, that was my best picture of something you can eat, partly because people find it funny. What's the problem?

I liked the pic of the grapes themselves but they turned sour on me with the addition. :24: I'm not bitching that you won. The people have spoken so it is what it is. That said, I know I'm not the best photographer in the world but when I see a competition on a board like this I expect something a bit more serious unless it's stated otherwise. As far as I'm concerned a competion should help sharpen a persons photography skills and make them think about what it is they are doing right, wrong or otherwise. Matter of fact I think when these are run it should be manditory that a person gets out and takes a brand new photo of whatever the catigory is. Something else I'm starting to think is that if you didn't enter you don't get a chance to vote. I'm not running these things so it's just my 2 cents.

Most people aren't hard-core into photography like you and sky, though. These competitions usually end up being about which picture people liked the most, not which picture was the best picture. The picture of my mom that I entered in phase 1 was a great photo. I think it's one of my better photos that I've taken. It only got one vote and even that one was admitted to be a mistake. Does that make it a bad photo? No, it just means that people liked another one better. So in that respect, I don't think these competitions can be used as a gauge for improvement.

I gotta agree there. If this were a photography forum, perhaps I could see your (Guyz) point. But I think most here realise these comps are meant to be fun, and the rules are up to whoever is running it.

The reason I've only entered these things twice is because a few DO take it too seriously, and its meant to be fun

I see where you're coming from Guyz but like Cam said, this isn't a hardcore photography forum, and this is just for fun.

It's great if you have the time to go out and take new pictures for every single category but quite a few people won't aren't so lucky, so it'll rule out some prospective entries if you stipulate that they have to have taken the photo within the set time. It's good that Sky has given a lot of time for those who do want to do that but if you've already got a good picture, why should you have to fuss about taking a new one?

And limiting it only to people who've entered who can vote would probably cut down loads on number of votes that are made like Zirc said, it's just about what people like, not about what objectively makes a better picture. I don't think my grapes one was better than the moth or the jellyfish for example, but for the category, it worked.

Zirc I'm no different than you when it comes to photography. It's just a hobby to me as it is to you, Siphy and HK for that matter.

Now class please take note......

- I wasn't bitching about the rules nor was I asking for them to be changed. I was just stating my opinion.
- I wasn't bitching about who won or who had the better photo.
- I'm not trying to force anyone to do anything they don't want to. I'm just a simple hobbyist sharing his opinion.

ok,i've read all of this,now my view seeing as i run the thing

i run these things to be fun,fun for everyone whether they be entrants or voters,and yes,i do wish i could have more of both

and to be honest i've never once said that it has to be a serious picture so humour is very welcome,but i do agree with guyz point about trying to take a new picture.....especially if you're in your spring/summer months....obviously i know that theres times when you cant find the timeor you might be in the depths of a hard winter where you are,so the rule is there that you have to take the picture yourself...which i have questioned an entrant about more than once

with this league i'm trying to make each poll as different as possible,some will be open and some will be closed....i might even do another multi-vote one

with the themes i try to chose something that accessible to everyone,some might have to use a little imagination i know.

so lets just enjoy it folks

I never enter a competition thinking I can win. I'm still waiting for the northern lights category. I think that's the only one I'd be guaranteed to win because I'm the only person here with pictures of them.
