Quietly I creep the night
Seeking truth before the dawn
Of the love thou hast given me
That fills my heart with the nightingale’s song
And in creeping, seeking, I spy on you
To see if your love is forever true
Through the window I hear your voice
And that of another, hast thou made thy choice?
So quiet as a mouse in the shadows still
I harbor my thoughts that test my will
Your words so gentle, thou hast place upon my ear
Burns like fire, when to another I hear
So I await the departing soul
That my fears I may confront that I hither to control
And yet as she passes, this lady of the night
I remain in the shadows hidden from site
When hence the moment that I may reveal
To you this broken heart, I allowed you to steal
How I believed all your words that were nothing but lies
And the love that you shared I was reluctant to deny
I shall thrust myself forceful upon thy staff
A blood stain on thee that is surely to last
And that my eyes and the look on my dying face
Will haunt you forever till you go to your grave
And futures hence, ye shall be wary
Of the tender young heart you persuade into marriage
For my ghost will appear to remind thee of the past
With that look on my face, I promised would last.
