The Importance Of Money

Alright, so I know this thead is probably not worth reading, and most likely it will end up creating more drama... =) But I can't help but wonder...

First off, people say money is NEEDED in this world to survive.
The thing that really makes me wonder is this...
Ok so, we don't really need money, cause a LONG time ago, people used to trade. But, then also look at it this way...
If we didn't have money, I think people should only get their "share" of supplies.

I see it this way...
"The harder you work, the more you deserve. The less you work, the less you deserve."

This, in the end, would balance out who deserves what.
Plus, as another note, those who are supplying us with food, deserve about half of what they do. get my point?

Work Hard, Earn More.
Work Less, Might As Well Starve.

In this world, money isn't exactly useful. Cause no matter what... If we all look at it from a long shot...

Everyday, we're just wasting time.
Cause, if we spend all our time becoming smarter, then once we die... it fades away it useless-ness.
Or, if we're rich, we have to give that money to someone else when we die...

It the concept of Importance.
Everything is just another subject in which all of us can use for the time being, and then not need at the very end.

What are your opinions?

A barter based economy will only work on a limited basis in today's economy. For example paying your electrical bill or cable bill with fruits or vegetables you grew or some other handiwork is not something they would accept as payment. House payments are expected to be paid in currency of some sort. If you and your neighbor have an agreement where he rakes your yard in the fall and mows your lawn while you offer to paint his house or do mechanical work on his car that works for the benefit of both parties. As far as the harder you work the more you make to some extent that is true in a pure capitalistic economy. We no longer have that in America because there are far too many social programs many of which penalize production.

The problem is to get rid of the monetary system, you'd need some major event to completely disrupt it. You couldn't gradually change back to barter or something similar, it'd be far too complicated and as Fred pointed out, there is only so far you can take it when it comes to things like paying your electricity bill.

You should have a look at Zeitgeist and the Eden Project if you're interested in designs for a world without a monetary system in place. They do some very interesting videos. The idea is that we do have the ability to feed, clothe and house everyone on the planet equally, through the power of technology, but we don't utilise that ability because everything has to be bought and paid for, and not everyone can afford the same things, and people are still looking to make a profit on everything they produce because that's how society works.

Wish we can just go back in the time when barter or the exchange of goods is enough. But today, in our capitalistic societies, money seems to be everything. If you don't have or lack money, you won't be able to support some of your needs... These needs may even be just created or dictated by the capitalists
