have not looked thru all the posts but I see some missing that make some in your list look like pikers

Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
The Who
Allman Brothers
The Doors
The Eagles
ZZ Top
Dire Straits
Doobie Brothers
J. Geils Band
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Grand Funk Railroad

just to name a few

the new music sucks IMO

As I mentioned a few posts ago, some of the groups I would've liked to add include: the Police, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, and the Rolling Stones. I have a small list of honorable mentions (including those). Some of these were put up by members already and some weren't, but they definitely need to be included.

Honorable Mentions:

The Kinks
The Who
The Doors
Queen
Smashing Pumpkins
Led Zeppelin
Beastie Boys
Alice In Chains
The Beach Boys

Allen reminded me of a few greats. Thanks! To be truly great, a band has to have a cult-like following and influential enough to convert a non-rocker into saying, "that's a damn, good song" or "I don't listen to hard rock, but that entire album has changed my ways." A true great will also stand the test of time which is why I don't feel it's fair to put any modern bands (late 90s or later) in the category, yet. Some have potential, but it's too soon to tell whether they'll stand the test of time.

there are a few others that could apply but I suspect a rock snob would say they were not true rock n roll groups such as

Emerson Lake and Palmer
Yes
King Crimson

Coldplay are average - I did like 'The Scientist' though. Blur, though...I can only remember one song of theirs...that silly 'whoo HOOOO' song where they jump around a room or something.
That's the only one that comes to my mind, too!:24:
It's called Song 2 for some reason. I guess it's the 2nd song off that album. I don't know and I'm not even going to look it up.

Really? They have been around for 22 years, had 7 studio albums (5 of them reached number1 in the album charts) 25 top 40 singles, 13 which went top 10 and 2 which reached number 1.

This kind of poll is so ridiculous subjective that it's not even funny. "Rock" comprises so many different genres now, that there's no way to compare them all. Especially when the Beatles are included, because the vast majority of people are just going to vote for them by default.

Also, including Nickelback and ignoring bands like the Pumpkins, Bon Jovi, Pearl Jam, and Journey (among others) is just plain idiotic and asinine.

Other than Song 2, Blur never really had much success here in the States.

imo, their best stuff came in their last 2 albums, 13 and Think Tank. And they had quite limited success.

BTW, 2011 Hall of Fame inductees:
Neil Diamond
Alice Cooper
Dr. John
Darlene Love
Tom Waits

LOOOOOVE Tom Waits! Another musical genius in my book! Cooper and Diamond definitely deserve to be in the Hall. I don't even know who the other 2 are.

The Hall of Fame is illegitimate until Rush is inducted.
