gimp s pretty good
and free
I do that stuff for a living so im all into it baby
i really like 3d better but you gotta have both

there are two ways to look at computer art programs

one is in the beginning you dont know how to use the tool
so your are is based on usually just a few tools that you have learned
then you learn alot of the tools and your art is still based off what you know
about how to manipulate the tools

two is after learning the tools. you visualize in your mind or on paper generally what
you want to make and you make it with the tool.

anyway
a person can learn just a few things about the software and make something awesome
and another person can learn everything about the software and still make just
ok stuff

Im hoping to learn. I may get photoshop back out and give it another go. I can draw and paint pretty good, i actually went to college on one of the bigger scholarships to be given from that college in about 7-8 years. Im still experimenting with this kinda stuff though.

Yup, it's a hefty package...esp if you installing the suite of programs. But well worth it. 512mb RAM however just don't cut it anyhow for most memory intensive programs (image editing etc). 512mb is basically what some computers come pre-installed with just to get you doing basic stuff. Kinda like a start up something. You need to upgrade your RAM to at least 1 GB plus to do anything efficient depending on what you're doing. Plus most of the programs these days do require more RAM because they are more intensive.

BTW, nice work with the guitar piece.

Ive been meaning to upgrade the ram but i never get around to it:( Maybe if i get interested a bit more in this image editing stuff it will get me a little more motivated to get it ordered.

personally if i was you
i would drop gimp and use photoshop
its much more robust(has better tools and easier layout)
if your interested in 3d
get blender 3d
its free open source
its awesome and comes with unlimited tutorials and manuals
and its small in size will run from a directory without being installed
its up there with maya and max and has some sculpting like zbrush
and some fluid stuff to
blender.org - Home is the site
try this
Adobe Software - Learning Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash, Effect, InDesign, GoLive, Acrobat Reader, Wallpapers, Effects
