I'm comparing myself to the hollywood failed marriages that someone else used as examples. It's disrespectful because it's OUR definition. They have equal rights already....it just doesn't have to match the same as other to be called equal. We aren't all the same. You advocates seem to have a harder time ac cepting that than us straigahts.
There are places, even in the United States, that don't offer civil unions to same-sex couples... how is that fair and equitable? It's discriminatory, plain and simple.
That all being said, my opinion is that civil unions should be the law of the land. If you want to be "married" in a church, leave that as a religious institution, but make a civil union the actual legal document. Problem solved, everyone is treated the same, and if you want to be "married", it's your prerogative.
