A soft landing for America 40 years from now? Don’t bet on it. The demise of the United States as the global superpower could come far more quickly than anyone imagines. If Washington is dreaming of 2040 or 2050 as the end of the American Century, a more realistic assessment of domestic and global trends suggests that in 2025, just 15 years from now, it could all be over except for the shouting.
Despite the aura of omnipotence most empires project, a look at their history should remind us that they are fragile organisms. So delicate is their ecology of power that, when things start to go truly bad, empires regularly unravel with unholy speed: just a year for Portugal, two years for the Soviet Union, eight years for France, 11 years for the Ottomans, 17 years for Great Britain, and, in all likelihood, 22 years for the United States, counting from the crucial year 2003.

link failure.

the empirical powers behind the empires haven't shifted much in almost two thousand years according to buckminster fuller and others.

the united states may well be deflated as the leading superpower but the real warmongering, slavekeeping oligarchs running this government will simply move their bases.

portugal were never a superpower, the russians are thriving financially, the french are the french, the ottomans?.....and britain hasn't really been a superpower since the days of the empire

Portugal were a superpower, incredibley rich and with Britain the only Western european nation strong enough to defend against Napoleon. But it was in their earlier days that they ruled the seas.

France were a superpower of unimaginable power, think of the half a million men that Napoleon marched to their death in Russia, and then a few years later could refill that Army and further for a potential invasion of Britain.

The Ottomans were an incredible superpower, they steamrollered Byzantium from nothing but a collection of nomads, and continued in strength all the way up to WW1, where despite being on the losing side they won the majority of their battles (with Ataturk being undefeated in combat)

All these empires, however, have found stability after collapse, many reaching great power again. Britain and France are nuclear powers, second only to Russia, USA and maybe China. While Turkey has a very strong economy and an enviable military.
Empires don't capitulate the way they used too, think of the way the Roman empire collapsed - and the Western World entered a period known as the 'Dark Ages', that doesn't happen anymore.

America is an empire, but a very different kind of empire to the usual. I really hope it falls apart one day, I'm tired of hearing about all the consumerism, money, greed, power, war, and manipulation that goes on, unaware to people. I think it's time people wake up and see things for what they really are.

Haha, you think America is bad? Just you wait for China. That will give you hippies some perspective. :D

That's just wishful thinking, you cannot be sure of anything, anything the future holds in its fold for anyone, everyone!!

No, but such a large skilled workforce, fantastic infrastructure and a large stockpile of nukes (as well as the leading experts and teaching on nuclear technology) pretty much ensures America a seat at the big boys table, even after they no longer sit at the head.

America is already sitting at the big boys table, no doubt about it, but you can't say all that paraphernalia can
ensure foolproof guarantee to an eternal pride. All previous civilizations and nations which once ruled the world also claimed tall but history tells us how they suffered their fates finally!

As an example, have a look at the drastic failure which this super power with host of its allies has failed to
overcome a bunch of terrorists and bring peace to the world. On the contrary their actions are spreading more and more fear and chaos in many places...then what good are all those heaps of nukes and other destructive devices waiting for?? You can't use them because other nations may not be as strong as you but they too have capability to retaliate with similar or whatever technology they possess.
Technology which is only useful for mankind will prevail, the rest will surely go down the drain as sometimes you get shot by your own pistol!:)!

That post made little sense. I really wish you wouldn't qualify everything you say with extraneous idoms..

However, what little I understood, I can easily refute you by pointing you back to my earlier post. History teaches us that after the boom comes stability. It's colonies that fall, the home country equalises.

Well, I stated a few facts and that's my opinion and I may be wrong. But you quote no proof??

Enjoy this.........

The Full Moon.

'Birbal was in Persia at the invitation of the Persian king. He was entertained and rich presents were heaped on him. On the eve of his departure for home, a nobleman asked him how he would compare the king of Persia to his own king? ‘Your king is a full moon,’ said Birbal, ‘whereas mine could be likened to the quarter moon.’ The Persians were very happy to hear that. But when Birbal got home he found Emperor Akbar furious with him. ‘How could you belittle your own king’ demanded Akbar. ‘You are a traitor!’ No, Your Majesty,’ replied Birbal. ‘I did not belittle you. The full moon diminishes and disappears whereas the quarter moon grows from strength to strength. What I, in fact, proclaimed to the world was that your power is growing from day to day whereas that of the king of Persia is about to go into decline.’ Akbar grunted in satisfaction and welcomed Birbal back with a warm embrace.”
