WASHINGTON, DC - The Federal Bureau of Investigation today called off a nearly thirty year search for the elusive Mike Hunt. The case, which touched off a nationwide search in the summer of 1982, had grown cold in recent years with practically no new leads. Exhausted investigators admit that Mr. Hunt may never be found.

"Nobody's seen Mike Hunt since 1982, and at this point there's no reason to believe anybody ever will." said Penelope Harmon, lead investigator in the case. "I fear the worst for Mike Hunt."

The FBI became involved in the case after thousands of missing persons reports were filed across the country during the spring and summer of 1982. Local police reported a rash of calls to businesses and public establishments from anonymous persons searching for Mr. Hunt - who time and time again could not be found. By August of that year, the Bureau had seventeen full time detectives on the case. "Mike Hunt was getting a lot of attention back then." said Harmon.

Over the years scores of Hollywood stars have supported the quest, most notably Vanessa Williams and Sharon Stone, who championed the cause in the film Basic Instinct. Brittany Spears and Lindsay Lohan are among the most recent stars to ask, "Have you seen Mike Hunt?", lending promise to the possibility that Hollywood will continue the search without the FBI.
