This is quite sad, but also total bollocks. Facebook aren't about to donate that sort of money to anyone, and if they were then there'd be a far bigger publicity storm surrounding it.
As one hoax site pointed out when I was searching this, this baby exists. It's not particularly nice for the parents to have their child plastered over facebook in a completely fake fundraising post.

That silly one that posts up a thing about what celebrity was born on the same day as you is getting annoying. It's got all the celebrities birthday wrong which anyone can easily check on wikipedia but people still keep doing it and posting it up.

I've just seen a friend post it and I told her it was a scam, facebook would not donate money and got the whole "but facebook will donate money to save the child's life. As a mother Katie, surely you should want that? Imagine if it was your daughter".
I cannot even bring myself to reply to that. There's no reasoning with people at times.

Yeah. And apps as well, don't they make a little cash off the credit thing too?
I was just gonna add that if FaceBook did charge for features, it would give competing sites an edge who would probably remain free.
Eurgh it's not a scam but this morning I opened my facebook to several people sharing a picture of a dog whose mouth had been blown up by a firework.
It's really upsetting. Abuse to animals happens. It's terrible. It really really upsets me and I really hope the people responsible get caught and fucking get what's coming to them.
But why on earth share the picture? Sharing the picture isn't going to achieve anything really. Facebook isn't going to catch the thugs responsible. Facebook isn't going to fix the dog (who has probably since died). It's bad enough seeing it once, without scrolling down and just seeing a dog with it's mouth missing every 30 seconds.

Couldn't agree more. It really pissed me off when the animal rights activists are preaching up the town centre and displaying gory images of animals that have been abused while there are children walking about.
This applies to so many different stupid posts on facebook. But if you say it, people will say 'but we're raising awareness!'.

I'd love to know what sick fuck trawls the internet looking for pictures of beat-up kids and making up shitty little poems, then posting them on facebook to do.... what exactly?
No links to somewhere you could donate, no suggestions on how to help. You might as well write 'I'm against child abuse' in your status, it does as much good.

I wonder if her parents have seen it yet?
I couldn't imagine opening up facebook one morning and suddenly seeing a picture of my daughter, after a horrific accident 10 years ago, with a poem about how her dad beat and then murdered her. Or even the girl herself (who would now be 12) seeing it?
Also, I wonder how many people who repost the child abuse, animal abuse, domestic violence, cancer etc chain letters actually ever give any money to a charity to help combat the problem?
