The Death Penalty

We've done away with it for over 40 years. I was wondering what your feelings are about the death penalty, I'll add my views, don't worry, I just want to see what you think without imediatedlt being accused of being some wishy washy liberal. So what do you think?

it's a real tough issue for me to decide on. i don't find the death penalty horribly distasteful, but the way we do it these days is too expensive. plus, i'm afraid of the government misusing the death penalty/ killing the wrong joe.

so i guess i'm anti-death penalty?

but it's so much more fun to be pro-death penalty, because then i'd be pro-abortion, pro-euthanasia, and pro-capital punishment; i could just say i'm pro-death

Its state mandated murder. Killing someone doesn't make it right just because a bunch of people agree on it. Plus, a governing body shouldn't never be able to legally kill one of their citizens. Also, I really don't think it makes sense to teach society that killing is wrong by.....well, killing.

I am for the death penalty in cases where the person is 100% guilty. (Witnesses, DNA testing, etc.) If it can't be proven that they are 100% guilty then I'd go with life in prison, no parole.

My thoughts exactly.

The crime would have to be heinous and/or violent in nature. Don't want to be executing a purse snatcher.

People that were on death row were thought to be 100% guilty with whitenesses and DNA evidence, and were found to be completely innocent.

I'm not arguing with you. Thats what it says. I'm not attacking you, I just don't see how a Christian can support the death penalty when their own savior wouldn't support it. :^/

Remember that as you build your case - It's a key element. Keep up the good work, though, making people think and all that.

Yet Christians are supposed to follow the commandments.....


Anyways, Jesus was supposed to be the great peace maker, the one true loving person, the most forgiving and understanding messiah of all. Someone with those crudencials doesn't seem to be in favor for people being offed. I think he would like to see them forgiven and just sent to jail. I mean, I've read the bible, and I don't recall Jesus ever wishing death upon someone.


But whatever.

No animosity. He asked me to explain my views, and I said I already have.

The first 9 or so pages of this thread is mostly just him and I going back and forth on the subject. I don't feel the need to expand further.

There's only maybe 2 or 3 people on here I feel real animosity towards, and believe it or not he's not one of them. We just disagree very strongly on some very important issues.
