You got it sweetheart. It's the same way they fucked with War of the Worlds. I was fucking pissed when I saw it. Remakes should be illegal. If a film maker doesn't have his own good idea he should stop sucking off of others and get a new job- flipping fucking burgers at McDick's comes to mind.

with war of the worlds it was closer to the book than the original......except location and when it happened.....and the book is a classic by my favourite author,H.G.WELLS......i've sat in his favourite seat in his favourite pub:D

i dont think i would even see the new one. they have... keanu Reeves... and i cant stand how he talks.... if ya know what i mean :-(

The only movie I've ever heard him talk oddly in is The Day The Earth Stood Still, which is understandable, considering he plays an alien in a human body(Which wouldn't sound too normal in my opinion). Ever seen Speed? Constantine? Any of the Bill and Ted movies? He sounds perfectly fine to me.

I agree! There are so many great movies that have been remade and for what purpose? It must be inflated egos that think they can out-do a master at his own work. Psycho comes to mind. Invasion of the Body Snatchers was another. I could make a list but you get the idea.

People don't remake movies under the assumption that they can out-do the original. It's all about money, and to a smaller aspect, pleasing the fans of the original. I loved the original Texas Chainsaw and Friday The 13th, and the remakes look amazing. I may be a martyr to a lost cause here, but I think that under the right director, a remake can be amazing. One Missed Call, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, The Day The Earth Stood Still, they were all great movies in my opinion.

Actually Jim it was very good and different to the original which I also enjoyed. The effects are excellent and Keenu does, I think, his best acting job yet. The only beef I had was the brat...the kid is very unlike the original..there is very few bits of the modern version that are like the old black and white one.

...and yes when he is shot he does utter the code words to his protector...

I think I'd like to see it again...both versions.:thumbup

I went to see it again a few days ago, and you're right. Klaatu does say the code words It's just in his true voice, so it's rather difficult to understand at first. It was definately worth the money, and seeing it twice only makes it better. Two thumbs up from me.

:homo:

I heard they've turned into some enviro/green movement bullshit :thumbdown

Not necessarily. The original movie was about the Cold War, and the dangers of nuclear bombs and whatnot, and since the world isn't involved with that anymore, the new director said he felt that the movie wouldn't have as strong of an impact, so he wanted to update it, to make it about current problems with the planet.

So, just because you as an individual hates remakes, they should be completely illegal? You know, some people(Such as me) do actually like and appreciate remakes. Just because somebody remakes something doesn't mean they have no other ideas. It can also mean they want to pay an homage to the original movie, because they're a huge fan of the original. Hell, I'd be honored if in a few years, I could have the chance to remake something like SAW or some other movie that I'm a big fan of.

Exactly. That's another reason people remake movies. They want to make it closer to the true original idea(Like when they did Casino Royale, it's a reboot, but also a reimagination of what Bond really is). It's not always just, "Hey, we have new special effects, let's fuck up the original movie!".

I watched this the other day...and although it was fairly good....my expectations where higher...as usual Keanu saved it, cuz without him in it it would be a flop.

So remaking a movie is a cheap way of whoring somebody else's work. I never said it should be made illegal. Legally that wouldn't work but morally?

Them wanting to make it "closer to the true original idea" is complete and utter bullshit! The true and original idea is contained in the books from which these movies have been taken. I have read the original books (and therefore the original ideas, have you?) and the movies are nothing like them. Three good examples: War of the Worldds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Lord of the Rings.

It all comes down to art and know what the difference is between good art and shit. Most people don't know the difference because all their lives they have been fed shit and think it tastes great.

Does it even capture the essence of the original? I mean, it looks like they made up a lot of shit just to make it sell and seem worthy of view.

I don't know. My dad made me watch the original version when I was really young. And I liked it.

I doubt this one has anything on it. :)

I saw it Monday and I liked it, but I have never seen the original either. I'm going to try and find it soon so I can compare the two. I really wish Gort would have more time to kick ass though, I could sit and watch him destroy shit for 2 hours and feel like I got my moneys worth.

Oh man do I ever disagree with you! I have read the story about 20+ times and the movie is nothing like the books. Entire scenes in the movie are nowhere to be found in the books. entire scenes in the books are completely omitted in the movie, Including Tom. I was very much looking forward to seeing the Barrow Downs and was greatly disappointed. That part is essential to the entire story.

Remember too that Merry and Pippin took off immediately after Bilbo's party with Frodo and Sam but they were only babies at that time. Seventeen years lapsed between the party and when Gandalf visits Frodo, who then leaves for Crickhollow.

what you have to realise is that lotr is a very long story so to give scenes justice certain scenario's had to be omitted...if you watch the extended versions you'll find that time has been found to include old man willow for instance.........and the 2nd book must have been a nightmare to film with 3 stories going on simultaniously
