I saw this the day after opening day, and it was pretty awesome. The only thing I didn't really like was that Klaatu never said the famous phrase(Although early on in the movie,

Klaatu gets shot. I didn't hear this, but I'm told he uttered a bit of gibberish that may have been "Barada Nikto"

, so I'd have to see the movie a second time to check this out). Also, the ending was a bit...anti-climatic. But it was still a great movie. I liked the remake much better than the original.

I agree! There are so many great movies that have been remade and for what purpose? It must be inflated egos that think they can out-do a master at his own work. Psycho comes to mind. Invasion of the Body Snatchers was another. I could make a list but you get the idea.

Actually Jim it was very good and different to the original which I also enjoyed. The effects are excellent and Keenu does, I think, his best acting job yet. The only beef I had was the brat...the kid is very unlike the original..there is very few bits of the modern version that are like the old black and white one.

...and yes when he is shot he does utter the code words to his protector...

I think I'd like to see it again...both versions.:thumbup

If I want special effects I'll start doing acid again! Fucking with a movie is like fucking up the punch line of a joke- it just falls flat.

lol deal...they didn't actually mess with the plot..it was at least the same... keenu comes to save the earth from us and the woman and the scientist talk him out of it...its very good.:thumbup

Absolutely! Classics are classics for a reason and I've YET to see a remake that was worth it's salt. War of the Worlds was complete ASS.
Frankly, I'm tired of being preached to in a freakin movie. If they ever try and remake one of my favorite classics, I might have to go all crazy white girl on a bitch

I love old movies and they're is a charm to them that I've yet to see recaptured in a remake.
If they ever remake Gone with the Wind or Casablanca or African Queen, you will see this girl come unglued.
