He is talking about his experience though, correct?

Have you asked him if he is also talking about somalians he has not even met yet? Or are you assuming?

I just see this happen all the time on the internet if people aren't careful to put all those pc words in there. Others automatically think someone is being xenophobic when 75% of the time that is not truly the case and then someone gets wrongly accused of racism because they didn't use the word 'some'.

Let's just ask Skyblue. That should clear it up.

Skyblue are you speaking of all Somalians or just the ones you've experienced. Because of your experience do you now think all Somalians are like that? Or no? Please explain your perspective more clearly. Thanks.

Stereotypes don't write themselves either. There isn't a big group of white guys sitting around in some secret world government office making things up about people of different backgrounds.

Ask any poker player what they think about stereotyping. If they make any money, they'll tell you that you should judge everybody as individuals, but lacking any additional information, use stereotypes because they're right more often than wrong. That's WHY it's a stereotype.

The bitterest people in this discussion are the first ones to single out people of particular groups and put them in a box.

I'm so sick of people being offended by everything it's ridiculous.

I'm signing up for "People Offended by Offended People." (P.O.O.P.)

Stereotpes more often than not are simply social constructs that do not apply to all individuals, and that alone disqualifies them as being used as any sort of evidence or reliable pattern to judge a race off of. Especially race stereotypes, which were set in place and perpetuated by the racists.

I just said they don't apply to ALL individuals. I also said that everybody should be taken for what we know about them. It would be foolish not to.

All I'm saying, is that stereotypes are not generated by the 5% of the population that is genuinely racist.

Most stereotypes about other ethnicities are inherently racist and bigoted, though. These are started by people not of that race.

I mostly agree with the first part. People are different, and people don't tend to be comfortable around those that are different. Here in America, white / Christian is the majority, so our problems seem like they're just against colored people. In other parts of the world, where white and / or Christian is the minority, there they have to deal with it.

On the second part, I would ask the question though, "How did it start?"

My opinion is, if you are getting paid to do a job, then do the job. If you're not cut out for it, expect someone to speak with you. If you still cannot maintain the level of performance necessary for employment, then you're out of here. That's the rules. If you suck at your job, you get fired. That's the same for ANYONE. :cool

Acting aggressively does NOT help the situation.

I agree that there are problems that do seem to affect certain races more than others but that is no basis to dismiss an entire race as having that problem. Its all very well to moan about Somalians and what a disgrace some of them are but not to stereotype the lot of them like that. I am aware that there is a big problem amongst the English abroad and here for antisocial behavior while drinking but I think it would be very unfair if I wasn't allowed to enter a country or work or live there soley because I'm classed as a yob because I'm English and not on any other basis. I take people as I find them. I'm not all PC and will joke about stereotypes but not to an extent where I seriously class an entire race in a certain way!

I agree with this too! If someone's a shit worker sack them because of it, not because of their race. And if someone gets sacked for being a lazy bastard they should take it on the chin and not play the "Is it coz I is black?" card!

I wasn't gonna post this, in case people yell "Racist!", but I don't care, it's funny.

In Iraq, we had a bunch of Ugandans who checked ID's at the chow hall and PX. One day I was in the chow hall and saw literally 15 Ugandans lined up in the middle at a little side bar that usually had vegetables and stuff.

I went over to see what the big deal was.................

I think he realizes that and is laughing at the way you just stereotyped all white people.

You should have used the word 'some' or 'our white ancestors'. :p
