... and fortunately I didn't get whacked by one. Unfortunately three others did and as of right now they are out of a job. The irony of it is our government has the nerve to say Canada is out of the recession. What a crock of shit. We're down to so few that I have no fucking idea how we are going to get anything done in a timely manner.

Beside that what's left of us have to take 1 forced day off every pay period for the next 6 weeks. There are many there that can't afford to miss a day without pay because they have little mouths to feed. In the end I'm trying to tell them it's better than getting laid off but does that really make them feel any better.? I doubt it.

Sorry to hear that, Guyzerr. I hear on the news about Canada.... I can't get American stations currently.... and it always seems as though Canada has it so much better than the U.S. I don't believe it for a minute.

This economy is hurting a lot of my friends and loved ones. Something sure has to give soon.

I've heard several people say what we need is a good old fashioned war!!!!!!! WTH? Is that what it's gonna take? :(

Depends on where you are too, I think. To be honest, I haven't noticed much of the recession going on here. :dunno

B.C. has always been known as a " have province " and it's obvious that's the case if my area has anything to show so I don't understand how it isn't affecting all areas in Canada. I for one am like Fifi and I don't believe it for a second and maybe we do need a good war to loosen things up. If nothing else it gets people back to work.

I'm in an industry that services the housing construction & reno field. Iit's slower than molasses in January and slowing down more every week. Orders are falling off faster than a new brides panties. New houses / condo's etc are sitting vacant because nobody is buying them. Even 6 months ago that wasn't the case. If nobody needs new cabinets and counters I'll be kicking cow turds down main street. That's just one industry. Think of the thousands of others that are affected as well.

A lot of the people that I know are in the automotive related industries. The trickle down affect is definitely taking its toll in this area. And on those jobs or lack thereof.

What irritates me is those people who run some businesses who are taking advantage of it. By letting good workers go in favor of cheaper labor. I do hope they get what they paid for.

Or the ones who freeze wages and want the workers to pay more towards their benefits.... or better yet... switch benefits to a crappy company..... and look at you and shrug and tell you... if you don't like it, there's the door.

I know a lot of that goes on and it did in the past two years at our company. They also used it to their advantage and got rid of a bunch of deadwood. The problem now is the last batch to be let go were actually good workers as are the ones that are left. The wages for us now is above average for the industry so it shows how desperate things are getting but they are also smart enough to realize they must retain only skilled workers at this point if they want to get the job done. In the 40 years my employer has been operating they never had to lay off anyone until two years ago. We're down about 60 - 70% staff compared to two years ago.

We're all treading water and know it. It's not a comfortable feeling nor does it make for a healthy work environment. The mood is quite somber to say the least.
