How many of you had the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover" told to you as a kid ? It is an issue I have had my whole life. I am to quick to judge people. I lack the patients or I am to ignorant to get the know someone. Anyone else have this issue ? I find when I hear/read things about someone I judge them without knowing them. Society is driven by this. Someone status be it marital or professional changes the way I think of them. Where did I pick up this ugly trait. It is a hard nut to crack. Within the first five minutes of meeting a person I can tell if I like them or dislike them. If I think there an idiot or not. It drives my wife crazy. I am to blunt with the way I deal with people. Something to work on though. Anyone in the same boat ? Rant rant rant.

I find that due to my upbringing, I was always the one being judged and have found that I rarely judge people. Is it possible maybe it has something to do with your upbringing and your family/friends/teachers maybe had the same views as you?

I can tell if I like someone within a very short time after I meet them.. I am usually always right about my gut instinct on people though.

I don't listen to what others have said about a person. I make up my own mind as well.

And even if I don't like someone I am still nice to them..

Ooh I am not saying I am not nice. It is just I already judge them without knowing them. Maybe there first impressions just by looks unfortunitly. Like if they have there hats sideways and wear baggy pants I consider them a duche bag before I even talk to them.

im like mel, i typically know within the first few minutes of meeting someone if im gonna like them or not. i know too many people that will take the word of someone else and judge them. as having been on the receiving end of this my whole life, i try not to do that myself!

I think everyone makes 'judgements' about others, you can't help it. Whether or not it's a fair judgement is another matter.

I make quick judgements, but most of the time the ones I didnt like at first have ended up been the ones I get along with the most.

Yeah, I'm like this as well. My first impressions of someone are usually wrong, I know this so I've learnt to ignore my initial thoughts till I get to know the person better

I judge quickly too, but my problem is that I feel bad if I automatically don't like someone and give them the benefit of the doubt...I usually get burned & should go with my gut.
