The Big British Squirrel Debate

What do you think should be dominant in Britain, the grey or the red squirrels? The reds are native but since the introduction of the greys, about a century ago have seriously declined. The greys can eat the food available earlier than the reds and this has left the reds restricted to a few pockets in England while the grey is probably now our commonest mammal. As nice as it to watch the greys, I'd rather have our native, prettier red in the woods. Thoughts?

There was an MP who was trapping and killing them and selling them to butchers, it wasn't much good though when its just one person carrying this out.

Tree Rats is what I call 'em.

Mostly greys around here and like BBATW I find them very entertaining. Smart as a whip and sneaky.

Weird things, them. I actually liked them, probably because they were quite novel for a Pom like me.

This area has black and gray squirrels.... I've yet to see a red squirrel....

We have black squirrels where I live, the're only found in the UK around here. However, they are just a hybred version of the greys so I'm all for shooting and eating them too.:thumbup

Red, too many of the Greys around

We need to eat all the non-native species. Only way to get rid of them. I read the reds could have been killed off by a disease that the greys carried and they are not weedy at all.
