I've got a friend called Siobhan but she prefers to just be called Shoni.
I have a friend named Aoife, and because the general lack of names like hers in England (it's a really popular Irish name) she often has to spell it out to people she's telling it to or they will spell it literally.
Ee-fah.
I also get mine misspelt now and then, it's Stefan but people spell it Stephen/Stephan.
You have to admit some names are dated. I'd never name a child Eustis or Gertrude for instance
 that must get annoyingImogen Heap?
I get asked loads if I named Imogen after her but I didn't! I went through the top 100 baby girls names of 2004 (I'd already been through 2006 and 2005) and found Imogen and me and Matt agreed on it. We thought it was a nice name that wouldn't be popular...
Little did we know that Imogen was going to be a MASSIVELY popular name in 2007.
I know of only two other people in my graduating class in High School that had the name Patrick...even my name is considered old.... but I always loved it when my Grandmother would call me Padraig....she said it so lovely too
Parents who change the spelling of simple names annoy me, too - instead of Jackson, it becomes Jaxon, or Jackxon or something even more retarded.
My sister's name is Siobhan. The amount of people who can't say her name and call her C-OB-Han is really amusing.
Umm, no, Ireland is a country's name...not a person's. LOLOr Taylor becomes Taylah or Tayla or Taelor or Tayler or something like it.
I once read a birth notice for a boy named Ireland. Ireland is a girls name, not a boys name. :24:
ahh names ..and been where i am from it is really frustrating with names grand parent expect you to put your kids in their names
glad this change now the younger Greeks now fixing the problem usually now put two names on the kids give the fist what they like and add the second on the grand parent and make them shut up :24:
anyway when i was pregnant i didn't wanted my in-law name if i had a daughter..her name is Ourania and mean sky
no way i was going with that name
but i had a boy i put my son on my father in-law this way they shut up but also i didn't care as i didn't know what boy name to use and George is a common name but not a bad name so i said why not i don't mind i like the name and i wont have other in my back
...with my name is another story . my mother told me when i born everyone on my father family started to call me Olympia (my grand mother name... father mother ) My mother hated that name...
and when they looking for a god mother the lady that end up be mine said to my mother, i will be the godmother but i want to put the baby my grandmother name ..well my mother agree and no one could do anything as the tradition in old Greek was the godparent choose your name usually ask the parent if they got a name but in old days they used to make that choose with out... so really no one could said anything to my mother
so I end up with another name i hated :24:
but hey this name now is famous
my name is Kiriaki means Sunday :ninja
so not really a name i could use in English so i say Sandy![]()
Interesting example.
I've always liked the name Siobhan, actually.![]()
thanks cam
oh forgot to add the name kiriaki for short of that name everyone used to call me kiki![]()
My sister likes her name but she just gets very frustrated with the amount of people who just can't pronounce it.
Sounds too much like Sybian :ninjaInteresting example.
I've always liked the name Siobhan, actually.![]()
i thought this is a different name competently or just spelled different as there is no R in the one i wroteOr Kiri...Like Dame Kire Te Kanawa? (sp) the opera singer?
