I actually liked the Gulf Shores a little better for swimming then the cape Beaches in Mass are good for walking, but the water is COLD LOL

OMG, you ain't kidding! I did go out in the water several times, but only up to my waist. And I am the "swim out to the breakers if I can make it" kind of girl.

the more you get in the cold water, the more it will warm up
