lol it's because that is their job, and they're assigned a script to stick to. They can't alter it as they are being recorded. (You aren't, but they are... if that makes sense).

They have a quota to make, and they make commission on their minimum quotas, with more commission for anything they make OVER their quotas.

I've never telemarketed, but the company I work for put a phone system in for a telemarketing company. lol

We're enabling them to call us later that night to sell us Amway products.

I dont think so. As long as the cell phone companies are charging you by the minute then they have no legal right to sell your number. And if they do then you can cancel your contract with no penalties.

Unless there is a stipulation in your contract prohibiting you from that right.

Who reads the entire contract? Let them call me, I don't care. lol I'll tell them I want whatever they're selling, give them the first three numbers of my credit card and hang up.

I just tell them that I'm glad that they called, that I am lonely and needed someone, anyone to talk to. I tell them about the dreams I have been having about small animals bleeding gold coins into plastic cups with no bottoms and how I think that this relates to the world economy.
My record so far is 4 minutes of keeping them on the phone talking to me.

or I'll just tell them that I am in the middle of something and if I can have their home phone number so I can call them back later that night.

You do better than me. As soon as they start to speak, I just hang up. I don't see the point in wasting my time listening to something I won't buy, or theirs, talking to someone who won't boost their sales.

Well, that, and it's usually someone I can barely understand anyway. I have headaches enough without trying to decipher what the hell they're trying to say.

It really pisses me off when they wanna call @ 9:00 at night. I went off on one the other night. I told her that she just woke my kids up and they have school tomorrow and I really didnt appreciate "survey" phone calls anyways but really dont appreciate them that freakin late at night. Its ridiclous.
I was wondering too what Blackwater Gt said about the charge for using your cell phone with the minutes and all and them calling you and wasting your minutes for crap like that.

The law is, for both telemarketing and debt collecting, that you cannot call past the hour of 9:00 PM in the time zone you reside in. If they go against this law, ask for the name of the company they represent, as well as the name of a supervisor so that you can give them to your attorney.

The companies' policies usually state that once a person has mentioned litigation, only their legal department is allowed to speak with you.

Well my home phone is protected by a special government agency which prevents telemarketers from obtaining our phone number. Of course, you gotto pay the agency (not much) but hey - it gets the goddamn bastards away!! I don't remember what it's called... but you can look it up somewhere.
