Have just heard (more details on this later), that a young, 17 year girl, had not shown any signs she was depressed or having problems etc, around her family, from what I gather, but through advice given to her by friends on the internet, she went ahead and committed suicide...

Will post more if I find anything else out. That's all I know for now.

Huge sympathy to her family - the ones left behind.

No point speculating with no details as yet, but watching about it on a programme, so later on there should be more details...

Wow what could drive a seeminly happy person to do something like this. It's pretty shitty that people can drive others to this. But also if she did this she had to be weak minded anyway............. *waiting for a bunch of shit* but I really dont want to get into a debate on this. JSUT MY OPINION.

Yeah, we have had debates on why people committ suicide - this was just to alert parents on here that's all. :)

I am not sure yet, the circumstances exactly, but waiting on the rest if I get to see it amongst things that I need to do.

Did she actually commit suicide on the internet, or just like everyone else in the world, was able to obtain information on suicide via the internet?

I know I'm side-barring here, but are we now going to blame the internet for "making" this girl commit suicide much like a lot of the metal bands were blamed for making teens commit murder and what-not?

I have just finished listening to the poor mother of that teenager and what happened. This happened in 2005.

The above mentioned, poor teenager came about her sad ending this way...

The site she was on, where she had made friends and discussed her depression with people who were also posting talking about their 'apparent' depression, was where she got encouraged to go through with what she did.

She had said she didn't want to tell her parents how she felt, because she didn't want to worry them.

She had, with the help of the people on the internet, learnt a way to even go as far as being able to hide her depression and feelings from her parents.

Then this is the worst thing about this story, as told by her mother just now on TV and didn't ask how to committ suicide from what I could gather, but the advice given, was suicide and how...

Those friends on the internet had given her details of the best way to do it, the best month to do it and the best time to do it and where to do it.

They told her how to hang herself, the exact material to use for this, the length it should be & to go and do it in the woods.

When the girl was found, she had had with her, the very details of what to do written down on a piece of paper.

Police had got into her account and seen what she had written to others on the internet and interviewed those who encouraged her to go ahead with what she did.

They told the police that they didn't think the girl would actually go and do it, or anyone for that matter!

I don't know the outcome of what happened to those who were questioned by the police, it wasn't mentioned, but that is one of the most horrific and sickest things I have had to hear. Telling a teenager how to go about it exactly - this is by other depressed people supposedly, or were they really, I wonder? :mad

Hi Ron.

I got side-tracked in middle of my post above, so hadn't realized you had posted.

Well, I'm not suggesting the internet is to blame at all. I am just relaying something that touched me and choked me, that I found very upsetting, that was all.

I had to mention the internet, because that's where she did her talking etc, as her mother said.

As I also said, I just wanted to let other parents here, know about this tragic happening too, being a parent myself, just for info really. I always ask other parents to let me know of tragic circumstances that happen to children if they hear about things, because how else are we to know what kind of things are there that can affect our children?

My son is my world and without him, I would be empty.

its not realistic for one
it is a horror movie about ghosts and the internet
its not based on friends on the internet
the people that came in counter of the ghosts
got really depressed and died
its a non realist horror film
but there was something different about it
ive seen white noise and white noise 2 and horror dot com
but its a little different

Oh right. I was meaning not as in a horror film, but was it horrific in the form of different accounts of peoples' suicides.

I don't think I could watch that myself.

Yeah riiight! All good fun. Idle assholes if you ask me.

:homo:

What kind of an idiot would she have had to have been?

She didn't ask how to do it, she was talked to about that being a solution for how she was feeling, on the internet (in post^^^^), which is different altogether. That progressed to her getting it in mind, that once they voluntarily gave details (she did not ask), it put the thought there for her.

As I said before, it was a warning for other parents I posted this - we like and need to be informed of the things that can occur. It is the responsible thing to do.

I never slate anyone going through that kind of difficulty in life, I have had to help people going through that a number of times - compassion is the best form of help, costs nothing.

Dana - that's just plain cruel! I am glad I could help some, that's all I can say.
Shes made her parents go through hell? and why because someone she never even knew online gave her details on how to commit suicide? She should have talked it out with her parents instead of hiding it from them. I'm sorry cruel or not, I find no pity when a person ends their own life because they can't seem to handle it. I've never experienced "dpression" but I'd like to think I'd be of sound mind and have enough confidence to know how to handle the situation.
