About 30 years ago I was working for barely over minimum wage but doing the right thing was doing the right thing. One Friday I went thru the drive-thru at my bank. I made a small deposit and got the balance in cash. When the teller gave me my envelope I immediately counted it. Seems like I got an extra $20 in my change. I got the teller's attention and told her I think she made a mistake. I was taken aback by her response..."I DO NOT MAKE MISTAKES!" I said thank you and drove off. The next week I went back to the bank. I got the same teller. This time she stopped me and told me last Friday she was out of balance at the end of the day and was $20 short which she had to pay out of her pocket. I told her I did not understand how that was possible since she did not make mistakes.:ninja

When I worked retail I had the reverse happen to me.

Customer would give me a $5 and say they gave me $20. Fun times.

I really watch closely when I give a clerk a $20 or larger. I often get shortchanged.

Same. Maybe, if I was really hungover, I might mistake a £5 note for a £10, but a £5 for a £20? Never.

Hehe..

Did you give it to her in the end?
Up til this point, he was hoping to! :tooth

A cashier should always lay the tendered bill in plain sight while change is counted back. That way, there is no mistake about what was tendered. You don't see many do that anymore though. Quick change artists make $$$ off of those who don't.

LMFAO...that's awesome. I'm a firm believer that when you make a mistake you should own up to it, even if it means that you might get in trouble for it. I'd much rather warn my supervisor ahead of time that something might be coming up than sit around wondering if and when I'm going to get caught.

Hopefully she learned her lesson. EVERYBODY makes mistakes.
