Taco Bell in trouble

I think the lesson here is that you don't go a kick a big sleeping dog unless you are prepared for a battle. Taco Bell is owned by Pepsi, and they have billions of dollarts to fight a war with.

While I'm not one to go out and defend a lot of the fast food that this world eats, I will say this: With a company this size selling the volume of food that they do, there is no real reason for them NOT to use real beef. Power players like this pretty much set their own prices for main commodities like beef because they buy literally tons and tons of it. They would not save any money by processing it down and adding a ton of crap to it. Things like adding oats to the meat are actually smart. Have you ever cooked ground beef and seen how much fat cooks out of it? Fats are the only source of flavor in foods. Adding absorbant oats would accomplish two things: keep the meat from looking "greasy" with an oily layer, and allow the flavors from the fats to stay in the finished product, after being absorbed into the oats. Tastes better, looks better.

Fattens better, too. You make good points, though. Taco Bell never claimed to be healthy.

The Taco Bell situation reminds me of the Simpsons episode where they go into the meat processing plant to save the cows. LOL

I reject the idea that because something contains a certain amount of fat, it is inherently unhealthy. The human bodies requires fats in the diet for normal, healthy functioning.

Eating a taco isn't unhealthy. Eating 7 of them is. Maybe we should change our focus on food entirely - going out of our way to make everything taste bad so people will eat less? THAT would be healthy.

They can claim they use real beef and all kinds of flavorful seasonings, but that doesn't change the opinion of my tastebuds! I'd rather eat a taco made from my shoe! Taco Bell beef doesn't have any flavor! I wouldn't eat one without smothering it in hot sauce. And, I have other choices here than Taco Bell, so I don't need to go there for a cheap, crappy (pun intended!) meal.
