Let me start this by saying that my insurance company (BCBS) will no longer be accepting prescriptions from Walgreens after jan 1st. We have to find another pharmacy. So I figured I would take my stuff up to Kroger (since that is where I shop for ALL my grocerys). So I drop off austins new prescription and get the forms to have ALL my prescriptions for my WHOLE family moved over to them. When Im in line to pick up my prescription, Austin (my son is autistic if you didnt know and has ODD), SCREAMS loudly!! The pharmacy tech looked at me and RUDELY told me that they can not have that in that area! I looked at him w/ my best BITCH look and said "Hes autistic". I was already ready to rip a hole in austins ass for doing what he did, but that pharm SHOULD NOT of said that. when i got home, i told zach what happened and called the manager. All he could do was tell me sorry. REALLY!? Zach took the prescription from my hand and went up there. He told the manager in person to get him his prescription paper back and we were going somewhere else. He asked the manager if this man would of treated a blind kid or down syndrome kid the same way? The manager looked stumped. well he went to go get the prescription and the pharm tech came back with him. He told zach that he was very sorry, that he didnt know. Zach said that was no excuse for ignorance. He had no right doing that to anyone. Zach told him that he just lost Kroger about 5 plus prescriptions a month (not to mention austins meds are NOT cheap!_)

I am still pissed tho! I was so embarrassed by austin. And then this guy wants to embarrass me more??

Side note, Austin got his butt spanked and he is going to bed super early! He also was informed by me that I will not be taking him any where else for atleast a week until he learns how to act his age. Austin KNOWS better, he was just pissed off!

You may not like what I am gonna say but I am trying to view this from both sides.

I understand your being upset at being treated in the way you were. But to be honest if I was the guy taking the order and I saw your son I would think it was a kid out of control and say the same thing. Your son looks normal. You mentioned somebody with down syndrome would not want to be treated that way and you are right but the odds are nothing would have been said to a kid with downs because it would be obvious looking at a downs child.

Maybe I missed something and the guy continued to act like a jerk after you explained. If not and you were expecting an apology at that time the guy maybe was having a bad day or just did not know how to respond. And you did say that even you admit Austin behaved badly.

Sounds like the manager tried to apologize. Not sure what more they could do for damage control.

It was an obvious action of an autistic kid. The way he screamed was not a normal kid scream. I dont know how to explain it. And as for the guy saying something.. I was handling it. If I wasnt and just ignored it like some of the moms I have seen, then I could understand him being upset. But I was in austins face talking to him already about it. There was no need for any comments from him.

I guess I just get sick of peoples behaviors with autism kids in general. When austin was little he would freak out in any place that had alot of people. People would always look at me screwed up and make comments. Im just sick of it.

I understand your frustration

Keep in mind though not everybody is familiar with the differing signs of autism.

And again I have seen normal kids act out and be asses. It can be hard to differentiate if you are not familiar with autism

I would just pass it off as a bad day for all involved.

Veronica, I have been in your shoes and have faced what you just did.. My ADD / ODD Autistic daughter would do this constantly at the stores..

I have to agree however with Allen in that a person ( the Tech ) could have made a mistake.. There are so many parents that let their "normal" kids do what ever they want that people get frustrated..

Seeing I was not there I cannot tell you how or what else you could have done and how this went down but realistically it sounds more like you are having a hard time dealing with explaining this issue to one person to others than dealing with Austin's problems.

Even worse your blaming a Tech for the whole Pharmacy. The Pharmacist apologized, per your comments, and tried to make things right. Isn't that like blaming your family for everything your kids do ? And not only that but will you be inconveniencing yourself for this one person who probably will never say anything to anyone again..

If it happens again I can understand pulling out but being this was by the sounds of it the first time I think I would accept the apology and move on..

I can definitely understand you being upset. So many people are too quick to judge today when they don't know the situation. And it is thanks to a lot of people letting their kids/or even themselves behave very poorly in public. I would be upset too simply because it's already hard enough having to constantly make people understand the situation. Acceptance is so hard in todays world and it doesn't seem to be getting any easier. :(
I only hope the next place you guys go will not give you a bad taste right off the bat.

You guys are missing the point, IMO. This guy's job is one that requires customer service. That means EVEN if it was just a kid being a brat, you grit your teeth, smile through it, and then you roll your eyes when they leave. It's part of dealing w/ the public. If he can't do it OR at least have some frigging tact, he needs to find another job.

I can't speak for Allen, but as they say, one bad apple don t spoil whole bunch, and saying that "the Guy" should not get a good ripping is far from the truth but penalizing the whole place that Veronica says she has been shopping at for all her groceries anyway seems a little harsh..

Yes the Tech should probably have an asshole ripped off and may be even lose his job, but why should others suffer for him..

I guess I just need more details..

Well considering he left a message apologizing Veronica, I think he is sorry and I do believe in forgiving. I don't suggest you take your rx there, but I would let the whole matter go. My boss has an 11 year old with autism and I know it's a real challenge for her. I can't begin to know what all you go thru, but you have my sympathy. I don't think I would have the patience not only for the situation with your child but with society.

I totally understand how you feel. Mason (our Autistic son) pulled an even worse screaming fit stunt in Target the other day. I was not there for it, but he made a HUGE scene.... I totally can feel your frustration.... I would certainly accept his apology, but not sure what I would do after that.

For every pissed off customer, they will tell at least 10 of their friends of their bad experience. This site allows to magnify this. #1 rule in customer service is the customer is always right since they are the reason you are even in business. You weren't in a library, that tech had no right to voice his disapproval regardless of who was involved. It amazes me the idiots they hire nowadays. Wait, no it doesn't, today's youth has no idea how to behave normally in society without their cell phone or facebook or whatever else they distract themselves with.
