I remember my first experience there of really cold temperatures. It had been sunny during the day and I'd gone over to a friends with just a big hoodie on. I stayed until dark, where the temperature had dropped to around -15ºC with a wind chill somewhere around -25ºC. Walking back to my apartment, some 10 minutes away, through a very open area of town, I honestly thought I was going to die. The wind was whipping down Mt Elizabeth and tearing through my clothes. I couldn't feel my hands, my ears, nor my feet. It's the only time in my life I was actually really frightened by the weather.
After that experience, I always wrapped up suitably. I used to go out for strolls when the temperatures got really low, and loved it. It was so beautiful there (apart from the downtown area) I just couldn't get enough of the outdoors. British Columbia has got to be one of the most beautiful places on the planet, especially when it's covered in snow. I will return one day
