Im assuming that work is what is causing my problem.
I was at work last night and around 5:00 this morning my heart started racing. Ya know how when you get nervous about something, your heart kinda flutters? Thats how it felt. I didnt really think anything about it but then it started to get to where it hurt.
So I had one of the other nurses take my blood pressure. Sh checked my heart rate too and it was normal at 73 but my blood pressure was 164/101. I have never had blood pressure problems in my entire life. So she checked it again about an hour later and then it was 157/106.
Since I have got off at 7 this morning and been home, I have been absoltely fine. Go figure.
I have been at this job in the same dept for almost 6 years and I guess the stress if it is finally catching up to me.
So come Monday morning Im going to my Dr and see what he says. I sure dont want him to tell me I need to start taking blood pressure medicine.

Before you jump on the pill bandwagon I would seriosuly consider getting a beginners yoga book or something along the lines of meditating / trying to find tranquility in your everyday life.

Once you get on the meds I doubt you will go off of them...

I've seen it first hand.

I doubt he'll give you blood pressure medications. He might, however, prescribe you some Xanax to help you cope with stress. I've seen lots of people I've worked with go through almost the exact same thing...but they loved the outcome of the bliss of Xanax. *smiles*

You'll be fine. Don't stress about the stress!

And Ryum...I doubt seriously anyone who works that often wants to pick up a new thing to take up another hour of time. I would, instead, suggest that perhaps she attempt to take five minutes to herself here and there while at work, just to clear her mind and relax her body.

Thats what my husband sit. That the Dr would probably give me Xanax. I would much rather have something like that than to be on blood pressure meds for the rest of my life.

Just make sure you are open and honest about everything that is going on in your life...at home, at work, etc.

If not Xanax, maybe Ativan. But I wouldn't suggest the latter be used while you are working, even though it calms you fast. It'll make ya slightly drowsy, impairing your ability to think straight or drive home after a shift.

*nods*

I can see why. I only had to be on it ONCE...and that was a couple months before my hysterectomy. My life had been turned upside-down and I let everything build up over a couple years...

I just got back fromt the Dr and he put me on Lexapro. My blood pressure was up there at the Drs office. It was 148/108. I had a massive headache at work last night and ended up having to get 3 shots in the butt. :rock

They initially put my ex on Lexapro, but he couldn't handle it, so they switched him to Zoloft.

Franklyn's mother is on Lexapro. She's so dependant on it that it's almost sad when she doesn't have it. Almost. It's also a tad amusing at times...until we had to come take care of her and are miles away from actual civilization! *smiles*

Good luck with that.

The Dr gave me 6 weeks worth of samples for a trial basis for the time being. He said that if I feel they are helping then he will call in a 6 month prescription. Im suppose to be monitoring my blood presussure on a daily basis this whole week and then faxing him a copy of the results next Monday.
