You can transfer it by gobbing in each others mouthes when kissing. Also very strict rules in boxing, an HIV boxer is a no no, all that sweat and blood mixing.:willy_nilly:

Really? I thought it was only in blood and semen, not sweat or saliva....off to Google

ie...if someone had a cold sore and you were kissing, or an open wound, then yes...but not just kissing in general.

Well, then, I stand by my initial statement that I do not need to be tested. I don't do drugs and I don't exchange bodily fluids with anyone. coffee1.png

It's blood transfusions that you really want to look out for. Maybe those Jehovahs Witnesses were onto something after all.:willy_nilly:

nope....cant get it from kissing. Unless there is an open sore/wound in the mouth.

Saliva does contain miniscule traces, but not enough to cause the virus, unless theres an open wound.

One site said you would need two cupfuls of saliva to get the transmission across...and I sure dont swap 2 cupfuls when kissing.;)

Besides sex and IV drug use, how else can it be commonly transmitted?

You can transfer it by gobbing in each others mouthes when kissing. Also very strict rules in boxing, an HIV boxer is a no no, all that sweat and blood mixing.:willy_nilly:

:homo:

plus general transmission: HIV is transmitted most definitively by the following body fluids : blood, semen, breast milk, vaginal secretions coming in contact with any open membrane ( eyes, nose, mouth, genitalia, anus ) or any open body tissues ( wounds/cuts ) of uninfected person.

Hence: other means besides sex/ drug use : 1) body piercing, tattooing with contaminated needles.
2) Health care workers in contact with body fluids 3) sharing sex toys 4) human bite from an infected HIV person 5) kissing: deep and open mouth

FYI: We know for a fact that the origin of HIV is from Chimpanzees. Given that they have found that there is such thing as FIV ( Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) like an HIV for cats and also with SIV ( Simian ) for monkeys. From what i know in 2005- they have found that these forms of like HIV in these animals cant be transmitted to humans. Unless there are new researches, i am not aware of- that had been 6 years ago. Since viruses mutate ( change features to adapt to environment) very quick. There's a possibility- now then that it can be transferred to animals and humans as well. Researches are quite late. Only when incidences have happened is when they'll conduct researches.....after lots had been infected already :eek

Also given that with my patients b4: Pedophiles ( child molesters) and Paraphilias ( rapists) if they dont have any sexual partner or victim- they resort to bestiality ( sex with animals ) most of those prisoners are drug users, have multiple sex victims and are HIV positive so who knows??? Hence- if an HIV test is being offered free- it's better be safe than sorry to have the test done and know ;)

Yes I agree with you as to kissing and saliva part as HIV is not transmitted thru saliva  BUT there is an exception there: With deep/open mouth /french kissing, you might be aware in the heat of passion- biting happens- hence if one bites and an open wound occurs- blood is mixed then voila- HIV transmission :eek

How about during winter time and our lips are chapped/cracked and have open membrane? If infected blood from the HIV kisser then another means to transmit the infection. It can be minimal risk- but it can happen and records from Communicable Disease department had cases of such ;)

Based on what PurpleDove has said, I am 100 percent sure that I have not been infected with HIV...and I still don't need a doctor to tell me that. ;)

Id worry more about getting an HIV exposure helping someone with a bloody nose for example than I would kissing someone you would both have to have some pretty bad sores that are leaking to get it from kissing.

:24: :24:

Of course that's entirely up to you. Kudos :D:thumbup

I on the other hand- am quite anal when it comes to knowing such. I've known and met people who contracted HIV from very unexpected and remote sources . Dept of Communicable Disease/Control itself advises everyone to practice Universal Precautions. Treat everyone as infected. Treat all body fluids as infected to be safe ;) As they don't also wanna be blamed for misinformation given someone followed their standard precautions and got HIV then CDC can be sued :(

Of course, there's more risk to your example over the kissing. Hence my statement: minimal risk ;)

I didn't/dont dispute any of that, you're absolutely correct.

I agree

I've never gone specifically just to get tested, but I have donated blood several times and, as such, have been tested several times. I would be more worried about contracting HIV by coming into contact w/ someone's blood than sex since I never have unprotected sex.

I don't know about Gonorrhea but Chlamydia is the one that you can have for ages without knowing about and is easy to treat but because it has a tendency to go untreated, can lead to infertility :eek

oh gotcha! ;)

HPV test is pretty standard along with a pap.

lol duh! what was peter saying about me being thick? :D

that always grossed me out about boxing - the mats are all slimy with sweat spit and blood!!! ew! :willy_nilly:

i know a few young girls who'd be tested twice a week if it was between sexual partners

what is even the point of being tested twice a week??? i mean it takes the body awhile to create the antibodies right?

in the us if you don't have insurance it is expensive to test for HIV - but there are TONS of places to get it done for free. The other STDs I think you're on your own!

I've been tested. I've never had any symptoms. Test came back clean. GF and I love the peace of mind. Why anyone who's been sexually active at all and doesn't have a PhD would argue getting tested is beyond me.

It has always amazed me how much misinformation there is out there concerning AIDS and STDs.

I have talked to people that believe if you have sex with someone who has AIDS one time, you will get it. But that isn't the case. If the female is the infected partner, the male will have a 1 in 1000 chance of getting it by having unprotected sex.
The same goes for people who share needles. You don't share one needle and get the disease. Those odds are put at anywhere between 1 in 10 to 1 in 1000. But it's not a 100% guarantee that you will be infected by sharing a dirty needle with an infected person.

The AIDS virus is actually a very weak virus that doesn't transmit very easily. BUT, and this is a big but. If you do get it, it's for life and it will most likely kill you. With that in mind, you need to have protected sex and not share needles.

And as far as kissing goes. You have a much better chance of getting hit by lightning than by catching AIDS by making out with an infected person. So there is no need to have your boyfriend/girlfriend checked out before you take them to a movie and swap spit. Well unless you are the super paranoid type that lives underground so you won't be struck by lightning.
