Standard Blessings ?

04:32:09PM (DST) Thursday August 16,2012.

Blessed our Lord for these thy gifts we about to receive, from thy bounty through Christ our Lord. Amen

Standard blessings or prayer before eating I call it.
Of course there are other ways as well.
Some say this before breakfast, lunch and dinner at home.

What ?
In public ?
@ Applebees ?
Who will be offended ?

Back at home or visiting...will you suggest or volunteer saying grace ?
What if the host/hostess is Atheist ?
Better not serve the Jello right after...

Comments ?

We did at each meal when I was with my ex, for the longest time afterwards I still did. It didn't matter if we were home or in public, we always said grace.

It would never be pushed on anyone, and we would never do it to make anyone feel uncomfortable...it just happened.

In the spirit of hedging one's bets, if there is a need, I have no problem with a blessing being said, although as a practice I don't presume that the food before me was specifically given to me as a gift by the unknown person in the sky.

We say "God is great God is good, let us thank him for our food, by his hands we are fed, give us lord our daily bread." with the kids

My more adult version is "Bless this food to our use, and us to thy service, and make us ever mindful to the needs of all others. In Jesus name we pray."

I don't think God (if there is a God, if there is a God who cares) guarantees food for our journey. ;)

Point being, be thankful for what you have and try to help those that do not.

Now, who you want to give thanks to or even if you want to, I don't really care;)

Ironically enough, we watched the following for Sunday school class today. Yeah, some people have it really s***** and we have no clue, but some people do try to make a difference.

Be thankful to whom?... that is the theological question. I'd thank my parents for feeding me as a child. If friends invited me to dinner, I'd thank them. If I was eating at the local shelter, I'd direct my thanks to them. Who else can I confidently give credit to? ;)

Read my lips...

Who the f*** cares;)

Crap, if you want to give credit without a theological debate, give credit to yourself for the remarkable position you've put yourself in this world of ours.

While I might be partially responsible for my position in this world, I had no control over fate, luck, who bore me, and whatever mechanisms are churning behind the screen of this world. :D

No, YOU had EVERYTHING to do with it.

No reason to think anything else had an impact on your life.

Crap, you have the power to take your own life don't you;)

Just don't tell me you bring this discussion up if by chance you're in the presence of someone who does give thanks before a meal.

Joe, you're not sounding so meek. Regardless of what I believe or don't believe, I still have good manners.
