In the State of Texas, a minor can emancipate herself if she has become pregnant, and that is the loophole for having to have her parents notified or present.

I know for a fact that here in Arkansas that they will not do an abortion w/o a parents consent and being there with you of your under 18.
Now I do know that this girl I work with has a 16 yr old cousin and she got pregnant and wanted an abortion and has nothing to really do with her parents so Stephanie (the girl I work with) had to go before a judge and get his okay that she can take her cousin to get the abortion.

But what amount of time does it take to become emancipated. As in how much paperwork do you have to go thru, etc. By the time she becomes emancipated she could be so far along in the pregnancy that it might be too late for an abortion :dunno I dont know what all the ins and outs are in empancipation.

oh well people who need an abortion is south dakota (like 10 people for the love of god :booze ) would just have to drive to north dakota or somewhere, no big deal. SD is pretty conservative so i don't think many states will want to adopt this kind of policy.

yeah i think we should keep abortion for unexpected cases like rape or teen pregnancy. i don't think that every baby is born by God's will. i don't think that God would want a teen to get raped and have a baby and fuck up her life. i don't think God would want that :D

In 2004 in South Dakota there were 11,493 reported births and 670 reported abortions. In 2003 there were 819 reported abortions.

It only takes ONE signature on ONE piece of paper. How's that for simple? Once the child signs that paper, for medical purposes only, she is an adult and responsible for her own health management.

Really? I figured you would have to go before a judge and fill out a bunch of papers and wait for this and wait for that.

Nope.

These are the same papers that are signed in an ER when a minor comes in with her friends because she thinks she's pregnant. It was a loophole that nobody ever complains about, so it doesn't get noticed...and for some of those girls, I'm actually glad nobody has.
