Ok temporary hijack
I use FF
Ram usage has been outrageous even when I disable add ons.
Ok...it finally started crashing.
Now when I go back to open it up and have the option to pick which tabs and windows to keep..the list may have shit that I closed along time ago or even duplicates windows...Often 40 or 50 items...its just huge
If anyone thinks they can tackle it let me know and I will start a thread.

What version of Firefox are you running.. It just got updated to 17.0.1

Also you should not have multiple tabs open at the same time.. The new Firefox does not have that feature any longer..

Try updating Firefox by going to Help and About..

Uninstall it and re-install a fresh copy. When it asks you if you want to delete your profile/data during the uninstall say no, that way when you re-install a new copy it will still have all of your settings and plugins set up.

Will I lose my custom settings in about:config ...or will they be retained in the profile

Dont have 17 am still on 16.
I have had the problem for months and all the versions along the way..So I still think it would do it on 17 anyway.
Seems to get worse and not better after each version...its as if it has 2 session managers? or something going at the same time.

Is tabs gone now?

I opened FF. Had to reinstall Flash since I'd uninstalled it. While in FF I don't get any pops at all! I'll try Chrome, but if that doesn't work I'll just do my streaming from FF.

I'm telling you the problem you are having in Chrome is because there are two competing versions of Shockwave Flash running at the same time. Just disable the Pepper Flash and it will be as good as new. It's a known problem in Chrome.

Yes you can save your profile.. Part of your problem is your probably holding onto old settings no longer used.. Like Opening Last Open Tabs / Windows when Closing Firefox in Settings..

go to
about:home and click on Reset at the bottom

See above answer about your Profile

Tabs are not gone but Saving and Opening them on Next Session is..

I re-installed the FF Flash, then did the thing in Google, but there was only one flash listed, and it wasn't pepper flash. No sweat, though. I have a fix I can work with. Thanks for the help. :thumbup

Are you sure there was only one version? Chrome has it's own version that it installs. This is how mine looks. I enabled both versions so you can see it.
I was having the exact same popping sounds when streaming and this was the fix.

I didn't notice the Details button.

Yes, there were two Flashes, and one was Pepper.
All fixed now. Thanks, Tim!

I think you are on to something.
I had went and modified in about config a long time ago to have save and quit again

I believe this was the setting...I just went and looked

browser.showQuitWarning =true
It worked well for a long time..but since then versions have come and gone.
I want to keep the save and quit itself...I just have something conflicting with it.

This would explain why after the crash...I have duplicates of the same to restore...and the stuff from 3 days ago.
I do know it backs up session according to schedule {FF}..so it sounds like it is just keeps adding to that session rather than just back up what is currently running

This may be causeing some kind of conflict shown below

In about config it shows
extensions.tabmix.sessions.crashRecovery = false
extensions.tabmix.sessions.crashed= true

But my tabs mixed plus options dont jive with above

as I am showing use fire fox built in session restore feature as checked..../as hadnt been working is why I did the edit in about config many moons ago

Enable crash recovery checked

Note how crash recovery is checked is my mixed tab plus options
But shows false in my about:config.

Now even If I have add ons disable...my ram usage will still climb and climb with usage..and releases a small amount back to me after closing windows and tabs....after I reach about a gig on my 2 gig machine...I am in the crashing zone and need to beware....many times the crash will happen when I am closing no longer needed windows or tabs...as a result I sometimes leave them open...and may end up with 20 or 30 going lol.

I don't have this in my about:config for Firefox..

Have you tried removing the Add-On Tab Mix you have installed ?

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/

extensions.tabmix.sessions.crashRecovery = false
extensions.tabmix.sessions.crashed= true

It may be the root of your problems... :mad

I've got 4 different processes runing and streaming at the same time with no probs. Thanks again, Tim.
