When I stream Netflix there's no problem, but when I stream Hulu or Youtube, I get an almost constant popping sound. I do a lot of multitasking, streaming on one screen or a small window and doing work at the same time.

Is it a RAM issue? Is there something I can do to make it stop?

If it is a ram issue then having less apps open will help eliminate the problem{not saying that is what do to...just by process of elimination}

A few added question can only determine this problem..

When you use Netflix do you also multitask ?

Laptop, Netbook or Tablet ?

Do you know how the settings are put in the video Cache player and on your video card ?

Does it pop any other time as this can either come from the sound track or the Sound Card.. If the Sound Card has issues it would happen at other times ?

Multi-tasking right now. No probs.

I haven't noticed it except when streaming. Come to think of it, my netbook does the same thing without multitasking.

I think the Cache memory is part of the problem if that's the case.. You may need to INCREASE the Cache..

OK two things I can quickly think of..

Virtual Memory.. This is found in your Control Panel / System.. If you have no idea where to get there, ask someone but here is where it's found ( look at the address bar in the photo )..

Or it can be the settings in the Video Flash program.. Right Click on any playing Video and find the following window that should pop up..

Hope either one of these helps..

It could be a difference in packet size determined by the site you are viewing.

I didn't think it proper to inquire about such a thing. :blush

Bwahahaha

The fact that Netflix work correctly indicates packet sizes are not an issue..

I would think that because its happening on two different devices, one for sure with low memory ( Netbook ) that shifting more from the RAM ( Memory ) to the Hard Drive ( Virtual Memory ) would sort of help that a bit..

Run the YouTube application and start one task.. If it does not "pop" than start a second task that you would usually do when it does.. If the tasks are graphic intensive than Yup Memory is the problem but not because they are bad but because you are hogging it all for the applications you are running..

It could also be the "pop" is from one of the application.. A point in the application where it makes a sound so run each one seperate with the speakers on and see if it does the "pop" without any video or anything else on..

These Pops sometime go unnoticed because we usually turn off our speakers when we do not run YouTube / Video sounds and don't want the distractions.. This one may just have appeared because you happen to be watching Videos..

Just suggestions..

I did both. It still seems as bad as before. :(
But hey! On the bright side, I have a good reason to get a new laptop. :D

I uninstalled Flash player. Adobe says Chrome has it automatically. The popping is still there but it's MUCH better. The rest is probably because I'm still on XP.

Thanks!!

If your browser is Chrome, try using Firefox and see if it still happens.

No matter what your browser, try a different one and see if anything changes.

Ok, here's your problem.

You have two different flash plugins working at the same time. Using the Adobe version is better than Chromes Pepper Flash.

You need to disable one.

Type this into your browsers address bar chrome://plugins/

Then click on details to show all of the details of the installed plugins.

You will see two versions of Shockwave Flash running. Disable The one that says Pepperflash (You'll see the name under the location)

That's it. No more crackling.

Yeh, good idea. I don't think it happened when I used Firefox. This is a work computer & they've sold their souls to Google. Email, document sharing, calendar, you name it. I just got used to Chrome is all.

Time for bed now, though.

Ok temporary hijack
I use FF
Ram usage has been outrageous even when I disable add ons.
Ok...it finally started crashing.
Now when I go back to open it up and have the option to pick which tabs and windows to keep..the list may have shit that I closed along time ago or even duplicates windows...Often 40 or 50 items...its just huge
If anyone thinks they can tackle it let me know and I will start a thread.

Uninstall it and re-install a fresh copy. When it asks you if you want to delete your profile/data during the uninstall say no, that way when you re-install a new copy it will still have all of your settings and plugins set up.
