A friend said she had gotten a flu shot the other day. i told her I didn't get them but didn't elaborate on my reasons as I didn't want to turn her Facebook feed into a debate. I read this morning shes going into the doctors for an allergic reaction! Yup.... flu shots help you alright.

As for this comment and the fact I cannot see the posts, how can I comment on whether the flu shot was the reason for the allergic reaction.

My son and I are highly allergic to many things.. Yet every year we get the flu shot and we could well get an allergic reaction from something else the day after.

One thing I will say however, is allergic reactions are nothing to laugh at.. One of my son's allergies will kill him in 20 seconds if he doesn't get his epi pen. I would not wish this on anyone..

I would assume it's normal procedure for you to stay put 10 or 15 minutes after getting a flu shot to see if there is any type of reaction (that's how it's been done everytime I've seen them administered around here, at least). The only allergic reaction to the flu shot it to eggs and that is because the flu shot is incubated in eggs.

Life-threatening allergic reactions are very rare. If they do occur, it is within a few minutes to a few hours after the shot. People who have had a severe reaction to eggs or a flu shot in the past should not get a flu shot before seeing a physician.
