Voice inflection. Speed, pitch and tone. The slower you talk, the better people actually listen.

Well his question is solely based on the fact that there is a God. So I can't comment on his question without prefacing it with "there is no God, but..."

I don't believe that there is some grand scheme or purpose to mankind. We are here through a series of events that took place over millions of years. I don't believe that things happen for a reason (in the philosophical sense) or that we are playing a role in some screwed up docudrama.

The belief in God was born out of the curious minds of humans thousands of years ago when we became self aware. There were too many questions about life and if there was anything after. Man needed to make sense of it all and be able to categorize his environment into neat little packages.
Grief is a very strong emotion and to be able to say "they are in a better place now" or "they are in heaven with the angels now" helps people cope with their suffering. It has been so en grained into society this myth of an after life that you are condemned for even mentioning that there may be nothing when we die.

Hell I can go on for hours with this...

Well, the thing is, If there is no God, then what really happens when you die? That's something no one knows. For all we know, there could be a God, there could be something no one even thought of. So, just what do you Atheists believe happens when you die? Do you just say screw it and you'll see when you die or what?

I guess I would say that there is no purpose to our lives. We've just here to enjoy our lives as best we can. It's quite possible that God just made something purely for something to do. People paint pictures, not to give then any function but just to look nice or for something relaxing to do. Maybe God's not really into painting and his hobby was making the Universe?
On a side note that guy is a terrible speaker, he is boring and he rambles far too much, it was so hard to get his point because of this. He could have made his point a lot clearer in a third of the time. It did make me wonder if there was some waccy baccy in that ciggarette he was smoking!

I think most people, religious or not ultimately say "screw it, I'll see what happens when I die." I find it hard to believe that anyone could be so gullible, really deep down, to be 100% sure of something that has absolutely no hard facts whatsoever to back it up.

yeah, that's pretty much how I feel, actually. In fact, I believe that so much that I can hardly call myself a Christian. I never go to church anymore, I've only read a very small portion of the bible, and I really have no idea what's gonna happen when I die. So... yeah.

We are doing a study right now called the Case for Christ and it is really interesting to hear what Doctors of different fields, Scientists, Archaeologists, and other Scholars have to say regarding the facts, finds, and evidence that they present.

Just thought you'd find that interesting. :)

Hijack over.

Carry on. :)

Just what kind of evidence would scientists find proving the existence of God?

The study is in regards to evidence on if Jesus is who those with him believed him to be: The Son of God, Son of Man = one of the Godheads of God.

I am not going to go into the study here in discussion as it is A LOT of information and anyone that wants to find out the information can on their own. The information is there in the top schools and is no secret.

However, if you are truly seeking God and wish to talk with another believer, feel free to PM me.

Fondly,
Grace
:)

Sorry for the hijack AEF.
Carry on.

Nothing happens. You just cease to exist. We don't need rewards after we die.

God cannot be bored. He is perfect.

My theory on jesus (if he even existed) is this: He was a great local philosopher who was in a turbulent time when the Hebrews were looking for answers and the "messiah" that the OT predicted would come in turbulent times. Now, if he really thought he was the son of god is up in the air, but it is very possible that his followers were so faithful to his teachings and to his personality they may have doctored what they wrote about with with miracles and the like to make him seem as though he was the son of man. In other words, the Hebrews were so desperate for a leader that they sort of crammed jesus into this narrow mold and made him seem like the son of god, instead of an ordinary philosopher of his time.
