See any ghosts? I've heard it's pretty haunted too

Thanks everyone. It was a great trip! Very rich with history. We study the Civil War in school, but getting the personal tours really fill in a lot of the gaps. If you get there, I highly recommend setting an appointment with a personal guide. They'll jump in your car with you, tell you where to drive, and get out to tour you through the battlefields and tell you stories. A lot of the historical homes and buildings are open during the day to tour. Some free, some with a small fee.

Gettysburg is supposed to be one of the most haunted places (mostly residual) in the US and understandably so. My visit was pretty quiet in regards to that. I did one of the ghost tours as I often do in historic towns. Not because I expect to have an experience...in fact, they are pretty campy. BUT, you get a different side of the history of things that happened there and generally you get the run of the buildings/town with less traffic which is awesome!

Nice images :D
What's with the pennies on the grave?

Pennies on graves are a long standing tradition typically for a few reasons: 1. to bring good luck to the soul that resides there, 2. to leave a token of your visit and 3. for the "toll" to cross over the river Styx. Yep, even the Christians did it. However, in Gettysburg it goes a bit further. The National Cemetery in Gettysburg is where Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg address which was really the turning point for the Union Army during the Civil War. So, you'll often see, particularly on the graves of Pennsylvanians, pennies left on their graves and at the Pennsylvania monument. But you'll also see it throughout the battlefields.

It's really a humbling place though. The guide with my group was really good too...very compelling. There were times he would talk about certain battles and you could almost smell the gun powder. One of the story tellers in a church that was turned into a hospital during the war really made you feel like you were in the center of everything. Definitely something I would recommend for an interesting weekend trip.

...and the brewery was pretty good too! :thumbup
