Some kind of hawk

I was out gallivanting around the farm one evening when I saw a hawk sitting on one of the fence posts. I didn't get the greatest pictures but here are a few. I'm not sure what kind of hawk it was.

Oh it's definitely not a buzzard...unless we're talking about different things. Out here a buzzard is another name for a vulture.

You do have Turkey Vultures in Sask. but you are correct when you say yours definitely isn't one of them.

I have taken a very close look at your bird and I wish you had a nice frontal shot because that would have helped me pin it down. From what I can see my guess would be a Swainson's Hawk but like I said that's just a guess. If I'm correct it would be an adult.

It's too small for a eagle or an Osprey. It's a hawk for sure.

We've got a few of these hanging around the farm. If I should see one sitting on a post again I'll be sure to ask it to face me nicely so I can get a good frontal shot.

I looked up Swainson's Hawk and I think you might be right. I may not have a picture of the front but I've seen the front and I think it's pretty close.
