Yup. Some people think that our parties represent some set of ideals and that the politicians campaigning under their banners actually support those ideals. Even most who know that that pipe dream is dead, instead of voting for someone they think might do as they promise, they still vote dem or repub thinking that one is somehow worse than the other.

They need to do that with EVERY political office.

it creates a false assumption otherwise

the staffers stay and they become an unelected powerhouse

the only solution is to make elections politically funded and to convince people their vote matters.
