When it is hot here they would break it into quarters to keep everyone hydrated. Half time was always orange slices & drinks for the kids.

we get pretty hot here but not as bad as in the south in the summer. we had more issues with cold weather. froze our ass off some games until my wife got the idea to get out the sleeping bags and crawl inside one

never broke down the games into quarters. never really needed to as the teams had enough players that there was plenty of time to take a breather.

I like soccer. They wanted me on AllStars in Jr. High, but I ran away instead. Had to.

We're thinking of getting PBBB into it as she has an interest. It depends on the coaches. It seems organized sports for kids is more about the coaches egos than anything. Which kinda sucks. Big time.

We'll see how it goes this year.

Here it is so hot and humid. They sometimes stop the high school football games between quarters to keep anyone from passing out due to dehydration. Most of our teams were 15 or 16 players total. The other thing is the officiating is real lenient for the younger kids. My father-in-law got carded at one of my son's games. LOL!

We found soccer was better than baseball for a variety of reasons. It was great when the parents knew little of the rules in soccer so it made it easier to coach. Soccer also is more about moving around which works great for little kids. Here the baseball coach's egos are a huge problem. Soccer was not nearly as bad.

At least once every baseball season there is an article in the paper about one coach or another being on a power trip. Who suffers? The kids. It's a shame, for sure. Or, it's the 'other' kind of coach who has bad intent if you get my meaning.... Tho, those aren't as frequent thank goodness!

Parents are a royal pain in the ass sometimes. I was right at the top of the list too for a few years. Too me a while to mellow out. I later saw what I jerk I could be by looking at how others acted. Who woulda figured eh

My daughters also played indoor soccer in the winter. They were converted hockey rinks. Now that was some damn fine fun as there was a lot of scoring. Got pretty rough too.

At least once every baseball season there is an article in the paper about one coach or another being on a power trip. Who suffers? The kids. It's a shame, for sure. Or, it's the 'other' kind of coach who has bad intent if you get my meaning.... Tho, those aren't as frequent thank goodness!

Several years ago we had some coaches and one official if I remember correctly banned from ever coaching or being involved with Dixie Youth here. After a particularly hard fought baseball game the coaches from one team took issue with the officiating. A fight broke out at the concession area and a couple of people ended up in the hospital. My son decided against baseball after three seasons.

I also helped coach my sons baseball team one year when he was around 10. I made a royal fool out of myself but the other coach had me steamed. We had a crap team which the city cobbled together. By the end of the first inning we would be losing by 7-0 typically. Well this day it was 95 out and humid. I was there alone to coach. We only had 8 players to field. And the other asshat coach is having is players steal 2nd base all the team even after being up by over 10 runs.

My bench was next to the first base so after I while I would start calling out to his players on first to run..run.. run

It took an inning before the idiot bench coach finally told the first base coach to back off.

and fred, AA...i do not want my daughter on a team where the coaches will be yelling and too many parents 'coaching' from the bleachers. she is 4 i want her to go out and have fun, not try to kill some kid

The last year I coached baseball I was the assistant coach and we were an "Expansion" team which meant we had very few players who had a clue. This was 7 & 8 year olds. I was having to teach 8 year olds how to hold a bat and how to stand in the batter's box. This was still coach pitch which meant you could really help your team. I had a mother call me at home and tell me if I did not put her son at firstbase or at least in the in-field they were quitting. I wished her well. We were not a very good team and even when we had a chance we lost. It was a very long season. Our first game of the season we almost beat the team which went on to beat most teams using the mercy rule and went to district.

my finest moment though was at my daughters roller hockey game. The league had 2 girls on it. and my daughter and this other girl were on the same team. My daughter was damn good if I might say so. She was on par with at least 85% of the boys. But this other girl was horrid. She had no business playing.

Now this is a house league and even though it is the playoffs you are supposed to divy up time fairly evenly. That season I did not coach although I did a few others. Anyway my daughter might have got 5 minutes playing time and this other girl got less than 2 minutes. As I recall the other girl did not even play in the 2nd half.

My daughter is pretty stand up for people so she mouthed off to the coach about it not being fair. He basically told her to shut up and mind her own business. So as the game ends my daughter comes skating off and is crying like crazy. When she told me what the coach said I went ballistic. I was screaming as loud as I could at this moron about how this was a house league and you don't screw kids out of that much playing time regardless of if it was the playoffs and that I hope he was proud for bringing my daughter to tears.

We just about ended up in a fight outside. He wanted to but I was happier just yelling at him

I really am a nice calm guy though most of the time.

Soccer is great for kids, teens, adults, anyone who want's to stay in shape.
I played until high school when I decided to put all my effort into track and x-country.
My daughter started playing soccer as soon as we could get her in a league.
She learned sprotsmanship, teamwork and conditioning.
She's now committed all her energy to volleyball but all those years of running her ass off playing soccer really payed off. She's quite the athlete now and in much better shape than most of the girls I see at her school.

At 4 she will be doing more instructional stuff

If she ends up being good enough then she would play on a travel team.

To be honest most parents are good. It is just the idiots. Who can make it dicey but you just stay away from them.

It is easy to do.

When you see what that looks like though I think most people mellow out.

I used to purposefully sit in the bleachers with the opposing team during the indoor games. Those games were such a faster pace and in close quarters that it was a lot more physical. So the other parents would get pissed off when my daughters threw their weight around. I would just snicker.

I loved coaching soccer. Until the boys were about 14, I could outsprint them at the end of practice. This used to eat at them and make them run harder. By the time my son was in the 15 to 16 year old group we only had a total of 18 players left in the city league. On Saturday's we would have a scrimmage game which included coaches & several parents. We were basically grooming an all-star team for competition. I loved playing against the kids because it was a challenge and kept me young.
