Why don't you lay off? Damn. This thread is retarded, plain and fucking simple. And Homer's been here a hell of a lot longer than you, so I'll take his opinion over yours any day.
There's nothing to bicker about, so like Kat said, get on topic.
If you don't think he should join, say so in a nice manner. Who knows? Maybe he'll get shipped out and end up saving people. Maybe this is some bullshit story and somebody will shoot him for dealing drugs and we won't have to worry.
Either way, you either support his idea, or don't. That's it. No reason to act like assholes.
Now, personally, I say he should do it. If his mom thinks that he's stupid for wanting to enlist, she's an ass. Why is is stupid to go fight in a war to save our country? But I'll tell you this much dude, don't enlist and expect to just sit on your ass and do paperwork, you WILL end up fighting, that's it. If you don't wanna run the risk of getting killed or fighting in the war, dont' sign up, that's it. And don't go off insulting any branches of our military either. Coast Guard does their part, just as the Navy, Air force, Army, Marines, and Peace Corps. Don't call one branch "Pussy" just because they aren't in the war blowing shit up.
When it comes down to it, it's not your mom's choice, it's YOUR CHOICE. Either do it, or don't. But don't have your stupid "Baltimore" cocky little attitude, thinking you can enlist and sit at a desk for 4 years because of some test. Because you won't, and if you enlist with that attitude, I'll bet $200 you come home in a body bag. It may sound harsh, but it's the truth.
You think a test can keep you from fighting? Bullshit. My dad majored in mechanics, and enlisted. He was only specialized to fix air craft, tanks, helicopters, etc. But that didn't stop the Army from throwing in out in the field with a gun and grenades. Hell, he's still got some of the guns they gave him, his outfit, and the grenades he used, not to mention some of the ammo he used in that war. See? My dad was only supposed to fix broken machines, but he had to fight.
