I love this shit
I don't mean that you need to accept EVERY POV presented. That's crazy to suggest that I think you need to start doing that.
On your A and B points, I think that's a great plan. I just don't see you doing it at all in discussion. Rarely, if at all. I cannot recall seeing your mind changed on anything. I may be wrong about that. But the proof is in that pudding. Your POVs rarely change because your version of the truth on something dictates that you keep your POV held tight, and that leaves little room for interpretation.
Of course the vast majority of people on the board argue their viewpoints and convictions come debate time. I'm just saying you're more argumentative than everyone else and least likely to see another POV because you think you're unilaterally right, so you tend to tag other POV's as objectively stupid (your words, not mine). I agree with that assessment because there seems to be quite a few of unintelligent and uninformed posters on this board. But that assessment doesn't limit me from realizing that even idiots make a good point from time-to-time.
From a macro standpoint, you're limiting yourself from seeing things that are bigger than you, ideas and ideals that you haven't even considered.
BTW, I think socialism is one of the greatest ideas on paper of all time. Utopic, actually. Human greed ruins it, however, so it's completely bunk...
active reasoning and learning! That's rich! gold star for you!Main Entry: obstinate
Part of Speech: adjective
Definition: Tenaciously unwilling to yield.
Synonyms: bullheaded, dogged, hardheaded, headstrong, mulish, pertinacious, perverse, pigheaded, stiff-necked, tenacious, willful
By your own admission, you consider yourself firmly right until someone can prove a different truth to you and you say that it is hard to prove things to you.
The irony in that is that when you so tenaciously adhere to your own POV and/or version of the truth, you limit your opportunities to see it another way. You are extremely adept at that.
That's all I was saying....Oh pleeeaaaseee everyone on this board does this. You seem to think that if I don't accept every view that is explained to me that I'm somehow close minded, which is silly. I won't accept views until I either A) review them and see them to be true myself or B) are proven to be true. I don't see that as close minded at all. I call that active reasoning and learning. People can cry all they want if I don't accept their POV, because you know what? Some POV's are objectively stupid.
I just don't see how I'm limiting myself. From what? You don't accept socialism, I guess you're limiting yourself because you don't right? Wrong.
