Slow Dial-Up Was Awful For Me

Up until a couple of years ago, I had to put up with slow, dial-up internet on my home computer. It was awful! It was very slow, and I'd often get "This Page Cannot Be Displayed" when I tried to go on a website. The benefit of putting up with it as long as I did was that now I can really appreciate full-speed internet. Hence, I'll never take faster speeds on the internet for granted.

I'm on dial up.
Sure it has its downfalls but no system is perfect.
I do not get hacked...that's one good reason.
I don't do any updates with my Windows NT system(there isn't any)
It's obvious I'm here posting so being on the internet is no problem.
Sure I get banners prompting me to update which I can't,doesn't matter anyway.
I (X) them out.
Btw the price is reasonable.

My modem [an ancient one] allows me to access the net via either 1X [dial-up] or EVDO [boasts slightly higher speeds] which are capped by the ISP depending on how you pay for your Internet. When I have to use dial up it takes over two minutes for a web-page to load [and that's if I've disabled javascript and images] in my browser. If you're not patient person, you'll have be forced to switch of your computer and do other things. . .like reading a book or watching a movie [whichever strikes your fancy].

LOL dial-up. I remember those days and the noises it used to make when dialing a 56k connection. Graphics took ages to load and it kept disconnecting at the wrong times. Packages came with an unlimited use during evenings and weekends otherwise you would be charged 2p per minute. Still better than nothing and i think it is still in use in the UK countryside. Glad i don't live over in those places!

Very true. I hated dial up when I was younger. In our house it was use the phone or the computer. But you could not do both. Pretty lame.
True! This was how I started on the Internet back in 1999.

Not just having to disconnect the Internet to call someone up, but also continuous disconnections that were counted like "extra calls" in the phone bill by the end of the month.

When I feel that my actual broadband is slow, I could not believe myself how I could stand being on a dial-up connection for a few years.
