I did some graphic design work for a guy and he said he'd pay me 20 dollars per poster. He lives like 15-20 minutes away. If he said he was going to mail a check friday.... ASSUMING that he did. How long would it take to get to my mailbox?

I don't know if your mail works the same as ours but here, if you post something on a friday then you'd be lucky to get it on Monday. I'd definitely say if you haven't received it by Wednesday like PJ said then you need to ask him about it.
I don't think the distance that he lives from you matters, since the mail probably all goes to a sorting office and then gets sent out from there.
Also, if you have to contact him because the check hasn't turned up, start off pleasant. It could be a genuine mistake, so going in with threats is just going to make your customer service look bad.

Unfortunately mail sent within the same small town or one small town to another still has to go to a main sorting station which adds at least a day in travel time. Crazy but nothing is sorted locally except incoming mail from the main station.
Generally about 2-3 days. However, if it's same zip code ( like in my town ) it's a day or 2. But then again depends on your town and how fast the postman is in your area.
With the Feds ( post office Dept) they have furloughs nowadays and it slows it down more. Furloughs are normally Fridays

Hey I aint an old dear or scammer and I still use them, occasionally. There is a local store I can write them on that will let me write them for $20 and it's convenient.
Besides, my Betty Boop checks are cute so there!!!!
I think cheques are far less common over here compared to the states now, because the vast majority of retailers don't accept them anymore.
