trash barrels and/or their lids are a lot of fun. a kid's swimming pool will work but will get torn up fast.

i think somebody mentioned boxes. refrigerator boxes work so well we could use them on staircases that had no snow. a flattened out box makes a great toboggan.

then there's craigslist where you might even find a real sled that somebody listed for free.
