a few things AB99...I was set to graduate early from high school, however, i had a year of letterman eligibilty left, so i stayed and took more classes, then dicked my schedule around a bit, (once i had been excepted to school) and i got out of school everyday for "work"..which was a round of golf..then work.

i drag raced on a small national circuit, played for several non-school teams, the school team, and worked as much as i could to pay for my cars and such. i also had a very active social life...i did the drinkin beer/smokin weed/ getting laid thing too..hell, i played hockey..come on! :D

once in college, i went through, played hockey there, grauated, then went on to coach the JV team of my college. i dealt with admissions a bit, and recruiting...that being said...have you taken the SATs at all yet? where are you planning/hoping to go to school, and for what...

sorry if any of these things have been answered already...its a long post, but i thought that i could maybe help a bit.

I haven't had time to read what everybody else said, but here's my take.

Make a deal with Mom and Dad. You get straight A's (throw the occasional B in there just in case), and they pay for gas/insurance. You drop back to 10-15 hours a week job, and you use your money however you want.

High School is over when it's over. Money will come and go, cars will come and go. Enjoy yourself while you're there. Chase girls, and stay up all night goofing off with friends. It sounds like you're already a responsible guy, so you've got a leg up on the competition already. Have fun, but keep it in balance, and you've already won.

GL man. Oh, and FWIW, don't spend a grip of money on the mods. Throw some spray on it for when you're really feeling the itch, but your first car will eventually be a fond memory, and you'll move up into something different.

Stay cool mate. :cool

unless you have NO people skill, dont bother joining a fraternity...frats are for guys who cant find themselves someone to buy them booze, and cant get any pussy. some people think "well you cant get into parties and cant find good parties unless youre in a frat"...not true...

while i had friends who were in frats, my roommates and i seldon went to their parties, because they were big sausage fests. on a campus of my size (36,000 grad and undergrad) there was a party every night of the week, and once we got our own house, WE were the ones throwing the crazy ass parties.

also, i played hockey my last two years of school, and we had a hockey house, which was basically like a frat house for just hockey players and bitches....talk about shooting bitches in a barrel... :banana

and, there is the myth "a frat looks good on a resume" not at ALL true...the only way that a frat looks good on a resume is if you happen to apply with a person who belonged to the same frat....unless you join a fcking nerd frat like a national honor society frat...but thats no fun at all.

Ok...my 2 cents...

In now my old ripe age of 32....I'm siding with your parents.

I really wish I had it over to do again. In my sophmore year I was heading to college...pre-med. In junior year was also taking 2 college credited classes. But then things went wrong and I never even made it to college. You have so many years ahead of you to work to pay for mods. Take your parents up on their offer. Do the extra curricular activites...get to know your other scholars...and DEFINITELY join a frat. Yes, you will have fun, but also, 10 years from now it will benefit you! If there is a job between this guy over here that went to such and such college...or you...and you are an alumni of the same frat as the boss...who do you think is getting the job. Then you can buy ALL the mods you want!!!

i have a lot of friends but they dont get involved with school. i think i can, i know i can handle work and school (i did it last year) and i want to be more independent so i will be ready for my own place when i graduate. plus, i dont want to burden my parents with my car insurance/gas payments. im working 20-30 hours a week and i am loaded and tired. hopefully my managers will cut it down to 20-25 or so so i can work weekends/3 days during school instead of 6 days a week.
