Should women be equally accountable for child support if the father has full custody?

A man and woman have a child together. They split. The man is awarded full custody. Should the woman be responsible for child support payments? If the father is awarded child support payments by the courts and the female doesn't pay, should she be placed in jail like a man? Is she considered a dead-beat mother?



PS. I edited this to change the divorce to split. We all know there are plenty of kids out there out of wedlock.

If deemed so by the courts, then of course.

I will have to say though that some of these child support payments are ridiculous. I don't see how most men and women can afford to live after they pay them. The amount much of the time is exuberant.

Of course - what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Though I've never seen the point of placing someone in jail over this as this option guarantees that the kid isn't going to see any financial help.

Well child support is figured through the courts and its based on income. They take in account all the bills and that kind of stuff. If someone make alot of money, ofcourse they are gonna have to pay more in child support. Its only fair.

Well child support is figured through the courts and its based on income. They take in account all the bills and that kind of stuff. If someone make alot of money, ofcourse they are gonna have to pay more in child support. Its only fair.

I think you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I'm not talking about people that make a lot of money. Why would anyone think that someone who makes a lot of money can't afford to pay child support.

I'm talking about people that do not make good money. I have a couple of friends that have gotten divorced and they agree'd that what the courts ordered their spouse to pay was too much. Luckily they were both good hearted people and even though they were not married anymore they cared about each other and their kids and worked it out amongst themselves.

to your question yes a women should have to pay child support just like the man, have you gone to court about her not paying toward the childs upbringing if not you should , i have a friend in the same boat and he's tried to be a nice guy about it but all she says is you wanted it you got it and doesn't even see the child , so now he's trying to get some cash out of her and she has it , so he can put it in a trust for college.

Not how it works in NC. NC has a child support enforcement agency and that is who rips the payments out of her paycheck...if she works legally that is. They know when she makes a payment and when she doesn't, even have a website stating how much she owes me. It is up to them to press charges, which of course they haven't in my instance. I don't have much say in the whole process anymore once it was court ordered for her to pay support some 8 years ago. Total to date I have received: $2000. Total she should have paid...$2400 per year. You can figure out the difference.

That is a very reasonable amount of money. Why doesn't the Child Support Enforcement Agency do anything regarding your case Steve?

child support is based on a percentage here its 17.5% for the first child. I say if you have full custody yes take her to court my logic is thats the least that parent can do they dont have to deal with that daily stuff you do like getting up in the night with a puking kid, going to see the principle if theyve misbehaved, taking time off for dr appointments they actually have the easy part of it. Also Steve dont they take her income tax refund? They always did that to my sons father because he was in arrears with me.

Yes, that is how I got the money I did. However, as stupid as she is, she is smart when it comes to working under the table to avoid such things as taxes.

I doubt they would put in her jail. She has two other kids from someone else. Man was I stupid at 20. Got real smart by 24 though.

a guy i know was put in jail 2 time for being a month behind twice , i guess the laws are different in nj , plus they fined him for it to put , i think them taking more money from him was wrong when it could have gone to his kid and it only being 1 month behind , it's not like he wasn't paying and everyone falls on hard times once in a while.
