I thought about Logan's Run as I was typing the OP. That scenario is a bit different than living for 100's of years and then being killed to control population. Or have I got the story wrong?

In Logan's Run it was 30 and I believe the only reason was for population control and management of resources.

Logan's Run- at Wiki.

i dont want to live forever. it seems the longer i live the worse life seems to be. not for me in general but the more i see that makes this world suck. i dont want the assholes ruining it more by being able to live longer. if that means i dont get to live longer, well that's a small sacrifice to try and minimize the damage done by idiots in this world.

Any thoughts on what happens after you pass? Are you a dirt-to-dirt Atheist or could there be a spiritual existence after physical death? I tend to favorable look upon the latter, but it's not at the level of "belief". How ironic if reincarnation happens! :p

Yeah it might be possible to understand the brain to a poinnt where we can replicate it inside a computer,
Thus eternal life
I dont want to die young but i dont want to live forever

The $100 question is: would that really be your consciousness? The problem is the possibility of spiritualism. What constitutes consciousness? Is it sole property of your brain, or is there a spirit floating around in there that is the enduring part of humans?

I would only want to live so long as I'm mentally and physically still able to persue a worthy standard of living. Mentally I may have already gone past that point!

I believe it just your collection of memories and behaviour paterns, i firmly dont believe in a soul.

Why not consider the possibility? I think it is a profound mistake to limit considerations to only what can be proven. But I won't tell you we have souls, either. So it's not my belief, but it is something my philosophical leanings makes me ponder.

And what if technology is able to change that, especially your mental condition? ;)

Mmmmm.

I suppose the "honest" answer (from me) is that if this technology were perfect and we could live for eternity pretty much at the age we wanted to be (at least in conditioning) it would be worth considering.

However, you also have to factor in loved ones also being endowed with all this technology. Because if they all pass on.......

i don't want to live forever i would go mad

You may have a point, in that our physical brains mental health may not be able to handle it.

But I do believe if we could, humans could easily live 500 years and still stay interested in this life on the condition they stay healthy and relatively young physically. The only reason most normal people want to die is because their bodies and brains give out on them. If physical condition could be controlled, I'd say a condition equal to approximately 21 years of age would be pretty cool. :D

I don't want to live forever. If this new generation is any indication of our collective future, I don't want to see next week :24:

:24::24: I got ya!

Seriously though, with your point in mind, I would fret for my kids' future.:(

Bingo! I don't think humans are psychologically hard wired to deal with almost infinite life. Certainly not anyone living at this moment. Maybe if they were born knowing that, it would help, but for me to contemplate an almost unending life right now, I would go mad. To me it would be never ending drudgery, not that I feel I'm a druge now, just that there is a rhythm to human life. Extremely long life would completely subvert that rhythm.

See above, for mental health.

As for being perpetually 21, that might not be so bad. :)

I would think it would unsustainable, but there are some people, in different disciplines, who think it's possible. I could be done.

I agree with you. I have no desire to live forever.

who the fuck wants to live in this hell hole of a life forever?

Hmmm...:) I don't view it as a hell hole. There are parts that have been quite unpleasant, for sure, but others that have been worth living for.

I just think humans are set up to be born, live and die. As I've already posted, it would take an upheaval in our psychological make up to accept sudden, almost unending life.

No way, never. The very thought of living forver scared the shit out of me. I would love to see what happens after death and plus living so long would completly destroy your mind, you'll get so bored that death will become your best friend and your only wish.
-I will grant you 3 wishes, whatever they....
-DIE !!! I WANT TO DIE !!! PLEASE KILL ME !!! NOW !!! cuz am a pussy to do it myself... and I've been living for... I dont know but every second makes my misery worse!

Diggin up three month old posts does that to me.
