I think kids should just be told the truth about Santa. They will find out the truth eventually anyway, so it’s probably best to just tell them at the beginning. Plus, why would parents want to buy a bunch of presents and want to give credit to someone who doesn’t even exist? Parents make children believe Santa is magical. And when children find out the truth, they don’t know what to do or how to react other than to cry. They wouldn’t cry if they knew from the start that he wasn’t real.

That's something I never understood. I wouldn't want to give the credit to someone else!

Does anyone here remember when they found out the truth about Santa?

My mum told me when i was little and i was okay because some people at school were saying he wasn't real or something. :p

Damn those schools. It's horrible the things that people learn in them.. :D

It was too long ago for me. I don't actually remember believing in Santa, although I'm sure I probably did.

Oh Oh I do!!! I asked my dad why Santa always gives me clothes for Christmas. He in turn said that it was cuz your mother wants you to be warm during the winter. Talk about a confusing answer! :willy_nilly: But that's how I found out that Santa didn't exist. And it just broke my little heart. :sarcasm

I still think that children need to have some make believe in their lives. Why make them grow up so fast? Part of being a child is being able to have make believe. They play pretend all of the time and that doesn't scar them for life. So as parents isn't it our obligation to let our children believe in something that is really harmless to them?

That's what happened to me. I just grew up and realized that he wasn't real. I never held anything against my parents, and I applaud their creativity at the home video of Santa putting presents under the tree and eating the milk and cookies. And even a bell to sound like the reindeer. They really went out of their way. ;)

To this day, my mom will still deny her part in that video, and that it really was Santa Claus. I know better at this point, but there's some part of my heart, the part that didn't grow up too fast, that believes that maybe, JUST MAYBE, it's real.

Aawww. Your Dad let it slip by accident? Cute :)

I don't think make-believe stops kids growing up. Things like santa are forced on them by adults, they don't have a choice in the matter. What makes kids grow up is age. You can't avoid that.

Like I said before, I couldn't say whether it does any harm or not, I very much doubt it. But I just don't see the need for it any more, other than to keep those cash registers ticking over...
