Monitoring can protect teens from risks, but may also affect trust and independence. How should parents balance safety with privacy? Where should boundaries be set?

I think they should monitor what their teens are doing online. Maybe not as strictly as they would with a younger child, but teenagers are still kids and they can easily fall victim to sick people online. I think they should have parental monitoring apps installed on their devices, to keep tabs on what apps they're using as well as where they're at if they are out with friends or driving somewhere.

I don't have parents but I do have have kids. I would certainly monitor their online activities. Virtual world is too dangerous for kids, even more dangerous that the real world

I think it’s less about choosing one over the other and more about adjusting the balance as teens grow.
Younger teens usually need more active guidance. The internet exposes them to risks they may not fully understand yet, so some level of monitoring can protect them. But if monitoring feels secretive or controlling, it can damage trust and push behavior underground.
As teens get older, I find it’s more effective to shift from control to conversation.
