Should parents lose custody of super obese kids?

I don't see what that has to do with obesity
Making right choices for the foods we feed our kids.

Breastfed babies grow differently. Formula-fed babies not only grow longer and fatter, but they also develop bigger and heavier bones during the first year of life, probably due to the larger amounts of calcium in cow’s milk. Formula-fed babies grow faster than nature intended them to; bigger is not necessarily better.
The bacteria in their intestinal tracts are strikingly different. Those in the tracts of breastfed babies consist largely of Lactobacillus bifidus, a beneficial organism that prevents the growth of certain harmful bacteria and that’s present in only small numbers in the stools of bottle-fed babies.
Lysozyme, another substance found only in the stools of breastfed infants, also protects against harmful microorganisms.
The ration of vitamins in their systems is different.
Human milk contains more cholesterol than does formula, and animal studies suggest that exposure to cholesterol early in life may help program the individual to metabolize cholesterol more efficiently in adulthood, offering some protection against heart disease. Breastfed infants have higher cholesterol levels at first than do bottle-fed babies, but this difference appears after weaning. In any case, the higher levels are not unhealthy.

Well, both my children were fed with formula and both are very healthy
i wasnt BF and im very healthy. i know quite a few people (adults and children) who werent BF and they are very healthy.
That is great and there are a lot of healthy formula fed kids. Statistically, formula fed babies are more prone to obesity.
Of course not every woman can breast feed. Some women can't produce enough. That is why women used to use wet nurses.
Please note, I said "opts". That connotes the mother has a choice. Not that nature has pulled a fast one on her and removed her choices.

i AM NOT getting into a BF/FF debate, especially with a BF Nazi! :willy_nilly: im all for BF, but damn im in touch with reality enough to know that its not always feasible!
Obesity isnt always because of unhealthy eating habits. there are heath reasons why a person is overweight, no matter what the eating habits are. there are skinny people that have WORSE eating habits than over weight people. what should we do about them!? do they get a pass because they have a different metabolism and/or different genetics!?
There are enough kids in foster care because of worse situations. lets not add to the growing problem. Instead, educate and HELP parents make the right decisions

i was only able to BF for the 1st month, then i had to switch to FF. what should happen to me then!? :willy_nilly:
Exactly. I'm not a breast feeding nazi. I can't help what the studies say. I have 2 children. My first born was a breast and formula baby. I had a very hard time with her so I understand the difficulties women face. It is frustrating. Breast feeding is natural but it is like swimming, you have to learn. For some women, it is not as easy as it looks. My second born was a breast baby. My firstborn struggles with her weight. My 2nd born does not. Do I blame it on what they were fed in the first months of their life? No. There are other factors as you mention...genetics and environment...cortisol production etc.
So, lets not get all defensive.
So, if you have a child and you're told that you live in a state with lots of tornadoes, is it child abuse if you don't move?
Oh, for Pete's Sake. Look back over this thread. The OP poses a question whether children should be taken from their parents because they are obese. That implies it is the parents fault...they don't feed them appropriately. I took the argument to the extreme since the solution presented is extreme.
everyone is SOL in that kind of situation then! move to the west.....earthquakes. move to the north.....blizzards and temps WELL BELOW zero. move to the south.....heat strokes and hurricanes. move to central.....tornadoes. move to the west.....mostly hurricanes.
we're all horrible parents!!
I don't see where you're going with this question, are you trying to catch me out cos you don't think there's anything wrong with making your child obese by what and how much you feed them or what?
You said that you think it's abuse if a parent who is being educated on the proper way to feed their child doesn't abide by the advice and feeds their child whatever they want, leading to obesity.
So, is it not child abuse if a parent is told they live in a state with a lot of tornadoes and they refuse to leave? Tornadoes can be dangerous.
Let's take video games. Lots of "studies" have shown that video games contribute to aggressive behavior etc. Is it child abuse if a parent allows their child to play video games?
You should always eat a good breakfast right? In fact, many studies claim that children who eat breakfast do better in school. Is it child abuse if a parent doesn't force their kid to eat breakfast?
Back to the obesity issue, who would "educate" these parents on good eating habits? The benevolent government that knows what's best for everyone?
