Because if it's proven he did say it he'll be in for a ban and he'll certainly have to resign as England captain and possibly Chelsea captain. Rightly or wrongly, at this very moment in time, John Terry is still captain of both because it hasn't been proven he called Anton Ferdinand a black cunt. If he's found not guilty, then he has nothing to answer to. I personally think he did say it, or something like that, because the VT's I watched and the fact that not just Anton reported this, would seem to indicate that something of that nature was said.
John Terry has also apparently been included in England's squad for the games with Spain and Sweden. Now see this I disagree with because it's two different things, him resigning from the captaincy and playing for England because I don't think the first is that big of a deal while the investigation is still ongoing, while the second is because not only does Terry obviously play For England if selected, he'll also, as captain, have a duty to be at the press conference. Now my thinking is there will be a statement at the start saying something like "Do not, under any circumstances, ask John Terry about the ongoing investigation" but it's still tricky. Plus there's on the field, in the dressing room, on the training ground. It's one thing being at Chelsea because I have no doubt the club are more supportive of Terry than England would be because he's with players from different clubs, and maybe Rio Ferdinand, brother of Anton, how will he look him in the face? Rio's obviously had to remain quiet about this on Twitter, but deep down he must have some feelings about it.
Like I said before, he shouldn't resign the captaincy yet because this hasn't been proven. But on the same token he shouldn't be selected for England for all the reasons I named above, because this won't be sorted out this week. It happened two weeks ago. It's easier to prove he was shagging Wayne Bridge's missus than it is to prove he made a racist remark.
Now the bigger question is "is he a racist?", well that's difficult to prove. Because I think at one time or another everyone has made some form of racist remark about somebody/a group of people, but that's just an isolated incident. It's not right, but it doesn't make them a racist either. Now sure if he's proven guilty of this it's easier to call him a racist, and who knows, maybe Didier Drogba might come forward and say "Yeah he's always calling me and Florent (Malouda) a nigger", I doubt it, but who knows.
Found guilty or not, I don't think this will ever be forgotten about John Terry, and if he's found guilty, well. Especially with the younger fans who look up to him maybe. Let's assume for a second Terry is found guilty. In 15 years time these two teenagers are talking about older Chelsea players and Terry's name is mentioned. It might be said like this..."Well i heard he was a great defender in his day, a great captain, but wasn't he a racist?". Never goes away see.
